The doctor said eat fiber?!

Question: so, is beef jerky good, or is it fatening?

Beef anything is not good for increasing fiber. Eat more fruits, vegetables, grains (bread, cereal, brown rice) and legumes.

Well, at least you spelled "protein" right.

  • eat wholemeal bread and museli and stuff

Eat fruit and vegetables. They're low fat and hove loads of fiber..

Uncle Sam cereal is very high in fiber, and contains flax seed, an antioxidant.

I would not recommend beef jerky. Apples and whole grain breads are great for fiber.

Beef jerky, though tasty to some, is not considered a good source of fiber.
You should be eating whole grain products.

Eating fiber usually helps you take a crap but in my case it just gives me a lot of gas!!! Only eat Fiber 1 bars when you are constipated!! Since i am not, then i just fart alot!!! lol

Brown rice/ bread & that kind of stuff are good sources of fibre- vegetables too!

if the doctor said eat fiber, then that means you may be constipated. beef jerky is a no no for that. eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and you should be fine. =)

FIBER is found many foods. Most of them are whole grain foods & veggies. I actually get a whole wheat bread by Friehoffer's that has double the fiber content of all other brands. Oatmeals, cereal, crackers, rice, beans, green veggies all of these things have great fiber content.

Raisins, cereals for example are good sources of fiber. Others are mentioned by the other answerers.

    apples, oatmeal, bran, granola..

Beef jerky is high in sodium and has NO fiber in it. It is high in protein, but not really a healthy food. If you eat enough of it, it is fattening.

Um, beef jerky---meat in general, for that matter---has essentially NO dietary fiber in it. Dehydrated meats seem "stringy" or fibrous, but there's no actual fiber.

On the other hand, most fruits and vegetables are good sources of fiber, and many are excellent sources. Right off the top of my head, I can tell you that most beans are GREAT sources of fiber...especially lentils. Assorted fruits will have varying fiber densities, but I know that pears, plums (also prunes, which are dehydrated plums) and figs are high-fiber.

There are also plenty of dietary fiber supplements available, in pill/capsule form and in powders, which you can easily mix with liquid.

too salty. Fibre= porrige, wholegrain cereals, sugar free museli, granary bread, skin on jacket potatoes, fresh veg, brown rice, wholewheat pasta, nice crunchy salads, eg celery, raw baby spinach, sunflower seeds, nuts

So, you meant "protein" not "fibre". OK...
First, doctors know nothing about nutrition, so just plug your ears and say, "La la la la" when they start telling you about what to eat etc.

Second, eat your fruits and veggies. Fruits are full of amino acids which we need and use to make proteins. Contrary to popular belief (due largely to bodybuilding propaganda) fruits, veggies, grains, seeds, nuts, legumes, etc. are all full of protein -- protein is the basic material of life. Unless you are trying to live off of sand, then you will be getting enough protein. We need very little protein in our diet. Most people in the world consume perhaps 4% while most in N. America likely consume 16% or more. Our bodies can only break down and utilize so much protein in a day, and all the rest just goes down the toilet as waste, therefore you also cannot (if say, you were bodybuilding) consume more protein as it would just be a waste product, consuming more energy and nutrients in breaking it down as waste as it did to consume it.

Fattening? No. Whether you get fat or thin depends on your metabolism. Eating more meat will actually make you thinner as (Atkins Diet shows) as the human body is not designed to extract nutrients from meat (especially cooked) thus your body starves and starts consuming reserves in order to survive, thus fat people get thinner.
