Get information for your mom on being a healthy vegetarian and you might make her see that you can stay healthy without meat. It is all about balance, a balanced diet is possible without meat.

The article linked below explains alot, you might print it out for your mom and use it as a discussion point.

I don't know what to tell you. She should respect your decision. Just ignore her, I guess.

Mothers don't like to accept that their children are making their own choices.

They think they should rule their "babies" forever.

No worries, your mom will get pass this.

good luck.

You are probably not going to change your mom's mind about this, so, I would not make a point of bringing it up. If you are served meat at your meal, don't put any on your plate. If you eat a healthy amount of fruit, vegetables, dairy and legumes, you should be quite healthy. Taking B vitamins will help with any iron deficiency you might have from not eating meat. Quite a lot of people have become vegetarians in the last few years. And, a lot of them are doctors.

i think the best thing to do is be the mature one. don't say ANYTHING about meat when you are eating a meal together and everybody else is eating it. Just eat your own meal like it's no big deal. it's really irritating for everyone to have a vegetarian kvetching about meat when you are trying to eat.

make sure you do eat the right foods--dark green veggies for B vitamins and calcium, proteins (beans and rice, tofu, stuff like that) so that you do stay healthy.

and taking a multi-vitamin with meals isn't a bad idea.

I Think Itz OK. There are a lot of vegetarians who all have a good reason to be it. There's also a lot of animals, like horses, who choose to be vegetarian as well.

I think its ur Choice What you want to put into your body, and you shud let your mother know this.

Buy her a book: "Becoming Vegetarian" or talk to your family doctor yourself and tell her that s/he said there aren't any health risks associated with vegetarianism.

Parents are stubborn and they hate being told they're wrong.

i am a vegetarian

i think it is just your mom isnt fully educated about what being a vegetarian is all about. maybe give your mom some info about it.. show her some PETA stuff. maybe the meet your meat video.. show her that u can live without meat. that u can get your protein from many other things. and that vegetarian life can actually be healthier..

us teens go through so many changes in our life with clothes and style and attitude and what not. your mom just thinks its a phase.. and youll get over it like yesterdays shoes. but i think if your serious about being a vegetarian and keep at it she'll eventually realize it isnt just a phase your going through but a life long commitment. she will come to terms with it..

also it may be a cultural thing im filipino with a mexican family and both cultures are really big on meat.

ignore her

I've been a vegetarian since I was 9 and I'm 21 now and I'm healthy, you just have to make sure you eat a lot of protein and take vitamin B supplements for iron...you can look up some great vegetarian recipes online and they have a lot of meat alternatives, my faves are by MorningStar. They have vegetarian chicken, and all kinds of things that are really good.

Please don't get yourself all bent out of shape about this. Not eating meat is not a bad thing. Its more like a choice. You have that right, but you must understand your mother is from the old school and is still thinking on the lines of how she was raised, along with the fact that she cares about your health. Truthfully, humans are not suppose to eat meat, so the bible says. God made wheat and grain for us to eat. I think what's most important is for you to stop trying to get someone else to support you in what you do. The more effective way to make people understand you is by show. People will follow what they respect, but first you've got to start respecting your choices and beliefs and stand by the choices you make. At that point no one will have a choice but to follow your lead. I say keep the salad on the table. LoL!!!!!

You will NEVER get sick from not eating meat.

I hate to say this, but you are smarter than your mother in this regard. It is always hard for a parent to accept these situations. Their parents (I.E. your Grand Parents, and their parents and so on, most likely all came from meat based diets etc.) You have to be strong and stand up for what you believe in. Your mother will eventually come around.
Go to the library and get a couple of books on Vegetarianism and ask your mother to read them. If she refuses, then you know the real truth, and out of respect for your mother, well, lets just leave it at that...
Do what you think is right for you. You are old enough to come on here and ask a legit question, you are old enough to choose what goes down your stomach. Period.

pull up some websites explaining the good facts about it... maybe if she heres it from some good sources then she might consider it... or just bring her to the Peta2 site and show here the "What they never told you" part...... GOOD WORK KEPP IT UP and good luck!

yes i understand where you are coming from although i do have a very supporting family, thus i do have some ppl at my school whom just mock me! i just can't help but to think to myself i am going to be burying a whole generation while I live another! not everyone is going to support you but you must understand that you have to self motivate yourself write a long letter to her expressing to her how you feel! That way you can always make i told you so make sure to make copies lol! good luck i hope you pursue the journey of vegetarianism! a peace of mind is the key thus not worry what others think!

My dad says that I can't be vegetarian until I am 16, which I accept, but I made him let me not eat red meat. Don't let her tell her not to be a vegetarian, there are other ways to get the vitamins and protiens that you need, so as long as you are getting those you will be just as healthy as any meat eater. If this is important to you, then she will understand eventually.

If you're not trolling, take a spelling class before you worry about your dietary needs. Egads.

oh dear that battle between parents and teenagers goes back to Plato and Aristotle being a vegan is a very personal choice ,learning food combining is important this is a type of nutrition where you get enough protein by eating two carbohydrates that are complimentary such as hummus which is garbanzo beans tahinni paste[sesame seeds ground up]and water olive oil and garlic.Tofu is wonderful baked with oil rice vinegar sesame seeds and soy sauce and eaten on whole wheat bread .black eyed pea's and corn bread form a complete protein corn tortillas and pinto beans brown or black form a complete protein new England brown bread and baked beans form a complete protein rice and tofu forms a complete protein .think about becoming self educated and being knowledgeable about the concept of being a vegan .it takes ten times as much water to feed a cow for a pound of meatas it does to grow food so if everyone was a vegan our planetary water crisis would be resolved its a good cause I personally feel that if people had to view the slaughter of what they wanted to eat it would be different but that's my opinion

"Accept"
"Cruel"

As with all parents which react in this way, it is not really about becoming vegetarian, but it is more about you wanting to do your own thing which is different from what your parents do or believe. They raised you one way and now you are heading off in another direction. Typical parental reaction. It's a basic psychological knee-jerk reaction by those people who do not think before they act or speak. If she continues in this way she is basically putting her fingers in her ears and saying, "La la la la la la -- I can't hear you -- la la la la" in the same annoying way kids to do their parents.

Parents have always had the power over their children and tell them to do this or that for at least a good decade or so before the children start deciding for themselves what is best for them etc.

Anyway, let her go to her room and cry it out because she thinks you are going to die from not eating meat (really, she knows you won't, because nobody ever does), but it's just a silly childish excuse to pout at the fact that you are growing up and becoming your own person.

Respect your mother and do what she says. When you are old enough and on your own, you can eat whatever you want. Meanwhile don't make life hard on yourself or Mom. She has more things to worry about than you having a hissy fit over the food she lovingly provides for you.

Grow up.
Get a job.
Move out.
Buy your own food.

Until then listen to your mother, she sounds like a very concerned parent.

Just eat meat like normal people.
