How do vegans or fruitarians make it though the winter? when it's lets say minus 25 degrees?!

Question: i was trying to become a vegetarian but in winter i felt so sick and cold all the time...so how do these pretty radical people get though the winter?

I think you're needing 'comfort food' to ward away the winter blues. Winter is uncomfortable, stark living. As for me I'm convinced protein is not good for you in excess and you only need 10-20 grams. Any more and I smell an odor in my bodily fluids ect and I feel tired.

It must just be that big change-over that happens when you're committed to tuff it out and you do tuff it out. All of a sudden, you no longer crave the animal laden diet.

Potatos are a good heavy food though and you can eat them till you bust without getting too many calories, especially if you mash them with rice milk.

I've just discovered a creamy soup made with califlower, potato and cabbage, put in a blender. Add milled garlic if you like but that does emusify the soup slightly. It's really good, low in calories, hot and heavy

Easy to make and save extra for later in the day. A must for us single guys ha. I practically live on it when I'm on the road...I'm a over-the-road driver.

You need to add tofu and other high protein non meat products to your diet , also eat more dark green leafy vegetables in the winter

Good Luck

Well, the "radicals" in my household eat burritos, pizza, and pasta.

What do you eat, besides, blood, pus, sh*t, and steroids?
Did you really think detox was going to be easy??

I'm vegetarian, not vegan, but during winter I'm big on vegetarian chili (try Morningstar Veggie Crumbles), thick soups like vegetable, potato and cheese, and cream of mushroom and also pastas with thick filling sauces (I make an awesome garlic and herb cream sauce for instance).

There's plenty of "mock meat" to put in meals too. You would make your regular meals and just put the fake chicken strips in instead of the real deal for instance. Use Vegetable broth instead of chicken broth etc

It's truly not hard to make the switch. Just don't buy meat or meat containing products (broths etc), get the alternatives instead. No big deal. Same food, just no meat. :D

I personally consume more vegetables- crunchy and leafy, go out of the way to eat five servings of fruit and eat a lot of hot protein dishes containing grains, beans, tofu, and some type of hot soup.

Supplement pills usually work. if not, go out and devour some snow bunnies.

I make myself warm soups, rice & pasta dishes. I drink tea, cocoa. Dropping Flesh, Dariy & Eggs does not mean you can't eat warm, filling, hearty foods.
In the summer I eat almost all raw(Vegan) so I'm cooler.
Are you sure you got enough calories? Winter requires more calories to mantain your body weight.

Slainté(to your health)

There's this great idea that someone came up with, it's called CLOTHING.

You should probably learn to cook before you assume that most of us die in the cold each year because you can't make enough good food to keep yourself satisfied.

I don't understand why the weather would influence your eating? Most supermarkets get fresh fruits and vegetables all year round.

Also a vegan is not the same thing as a fruitarian. A fruitarian IS pretty radical, and it would be difficult regardless of season. There is no difficulty with being vegan.

Are you getting enough vitamin C and sleep? Lack of sleep can make you feel cold.

I live in a very cold climate (40 below on some winter nights) and I always tolerate the cold better if I'm well rested.

you have heard of the grocer?

I am a vegan who lives in Saskatchewan Canada where it can be as low as -35 deg C, and even colder if we have a wind, so even -45deg C on the very coldest days. To be honest I found my body has an easyer time maintaining a normal body temperature when on a vegan diet. Why? because plant based foods especially fresh raw foods take very little energy to digest but provide the most and best quality energy for there mass, as long as your body has had the chance to buld the proper enzymes to break them down.

People on a vegan diet after they detox will have better circulation as well, that also helps you keep cool in the summer.

I live out in the country and I have to look after and feed my 2 goats and 6 horses, I dress in layers and as I am working outside I am moving, my blood circulates keeping my whole body warm. In the house I usualy like to wear a T shirt and jeans or other comfortable pants, and I dont like socks. My indoor house tempature is at 68deg F and i feel fine (=

Are you eating a well balanced diet? Just saying you tried a vegetarian diet does not tell us anything.... Did you eat cr*p food, processed food? Or did you eat plenty of fresh foods, high in fiber, energy, and nutriants? My question is what kind of fuel are you feeding your body?

you can also eat nnuts, almond ,pecans, pistachos ..
