Vegans/Vegetarians, Would you agree?!

Question: I've heard quite a few people say they follow either a vegan/vegetarian lifestyle because of the killing of the animals. However I have witnessed many times over plants ripped from the ground and the foliage left to rot merely for taking just the fruit or the seeds. Are they not alive? Is nobody willing to stand up for the plants?

I'm glad to see someone is taking a stand for the poor helpless plants.

Die plants die!!!

On a serious note: I agree, plants do have feelings and to see them torn apart at the root or the stem for their precious life bearing fruits brings a tear to my eye. How can vegans do this to such precious life?!

We should all just starve and live off of the polluted water.

this crap is getting too old!!! i hate these types of debate. im a veg. the reason why is mostly because of the hormones and confinement that these "factory farms" are doing. it really has nothing to do with what ur sayn. for most people, thats the reason to. not because of killing. yea, its bad, but the torture is the worst prt. hate to be rude, but its not fair that you are putting down vegs. because of what they do and believe.

All plants lack a central nervous system, so they don't feel pain. It is pointless for them to feel pain, because pain is an evolutionary advantage given to animals so they can react by removing themselves from a harmful situation. Plants cannot move either way. Also, eating most fruits and nut don't kill the plant that produced them.

I'm just curious as to why so many meat eaters in yahoo answers are obsessed with what vegetarians and vegans do. It's almost like you're hoping to score some victory, like you want people to tell you it's okey to eat meat.

If you eat meat, be secure with your choice and enjoy it. The obsession with others choices just doesn't make sense to me.

We get a question like this almost every day.

It's almost as common as "do vegetarians eat animal crackers?"

Go check my other answers if you want. I'm tired of answering the same thing.

YAWN

Think of something original, will you?

Saying that killing plants is just as bad as killing animals just makes you look stupid.

Why is the only con arguments to being vegetarian...that plants are alive too...and we have insisor teeth... How come we can come up with a whole truck load of reasons not to eat meat? Come on now..serously. I need something fresh to work with...something that makes sense too. This doesn't even make sense to be honest. Think about how silly you sound. Plants are not the same as animals...we have brains...we think(among many other things). Use that thinking part of you...your brain...to come up with something that holds some amount of water.

1) Plants have no central nervous systems or nerve endings and are unable to feel pain-that's why they have their own kingdom of life. 8th grade biology-or have you not taken that class yet?
2)Suppose in some twisted, alternate universe, plants did have the capability to feel pain-then veg*ans are still doing them a favor, because it takes more grain to feed omnivores because of all the grain that must be "ripped from the ground" to feed the 95 cows, chickens, and pigs you consume each year.

Trolllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll... alert

Someone should keep a running tally of how many times the "what about the plants" question is asked.

But hey, every pound of meat you eat kills far more plants than a vegan can eat in one day.

Trolling aside,

I'll say once again... You eat the cow that eats multiple times the plants I do. I win.

Ok, First of all I hope you are serious because i am taking the time to write something.

I always tell people "I do not eat anything that comes from anything with a nervous system."

This comment usually clears up any confusion.

Yes, plants are alive. But, they have no central nervous system (CNS) so they can't feel pain. That's why vegetarians can eat them.

umm...i think that it is okay to eat plants. this is cuz we can plant them anytime. but we cannot just magically create animals. that's just my belief.

im pretty sure this question must be a joke, but in short vegetables and fruits dont have nervous systems. they cant feel it. and there is no "oo how do we really know this", we know alright, accept it.

eat meat, its natures process
