How come every body thinks that veggies/vegans are in it purely for moral values?!

Question: im not denying that a big part of the reason im veggetarian is the moral side, but also, i just find the thought of eating a partly decomposed piece of muscle isnt an advertising one, in fact since i was a little kid raw meat has made me wonna puke (especially processed meat).

if you are vegetarian/vegan what reasons do you have?

I think it's because the animal rights people, especially PETA, are really loud in their protests. They go over-board and get too dramatic (throwing fake blood on people etc). It gets attention yes, but it also brandishes all vegs with that image. So the minute you tell someone that you are veg, the image that snaps into their mind is of a PETA member and not just "a PETA member" but a nutty blood tossing one.

I've spent many an hour explaining myself to people.

Health reasons. Heart disease is prevalant in my family and a low-fat, veg diet prevents or even reverses heart disease. Sure we all die of something, but why die early when I can prevent it from happening?

The fact that I'm not eating a dead animal that suffered it's whole life is a bonus but not the prize for me. Not being dead early is the prize.

im veg, and im in it for the moral reasons, mostly. and because soy products are delicious.

for me being a vegetarian would be a moral issue. to kill something for food is hard. i can't do it, but when i do eat meat i feel the need to thank the animal for the sacrifice, even though i know that the animal had no choice in the matter, it just seems disrespectful to not give the animal a thought. taste wise, i like the taste of meat. it's just hard to walk the cows in the next paddock, they have such big brown eyes. vegetarians can be really healthy, but i have never met a vegan who doesn't look way too skinny and a little pasty.

"How come every body thinks that veggies/vegans are in it purely for moral values?"

Because at the end of the day, the only logical reason is that they think it is wrong to kill animals and they say it is so. Any other agrue to way ie health reason, is an unproven one, as a balance diet including one that does included meat, is just has healthy as any other then taken with excerise.

1. Animal Cruelty
2. Health Reasons
3. Environmental Impacts

Living in an industrialized part of the world and having an intelligent brain, it makes me wonder why not more people chose not to eat dead flesh.

Why does the package of "Fresh" meat in the cellophane packaging not have ingredients written on them? Like: THIS PACKAGE OF DEAD FLESH CONTAINS: FAT, CHOLESTEROL, HORMONES (BHT), PESTICIDES, NON FDA APPROVED DRUGS. CERTAIN PARTS MAY CONTAIN TRACES OF TUMOURS, PUSS AND CANCEROUS FRAGMENTS.

There are many reasons for people to not eat meat. From just liking veggies and not liking meats. to down right showing off and making others miserable by doing so. Some even claim it is health ire.

I will still eat those animals.

I'm in it for the health benefits.
Animals(at least the ones raised in the US) are pumped full of antibiotics and growth hormones.I don't want that junk in my body!

I love eating animals.

Personally, I don't make any assumptions as to why folks make the choices they do. That would be their business unless it were to infringe on my rights or choices. Can't we all just agree to disagree?

Does it really matter what other people think? I am not veggie or vegan, however its all about respect for eachother. A friend of mine is a veggie due to not be able to eat meat (it makes her very ill) another friend is a veggie because of her beliefs. They dont impose their opinion on me, I dont on them. So not everybody thinks it is down to moral values, even if they did, who cares?

Who's this Every Body you speak of? Never heard of him in my life.

i completely agree with you
i have been ovo-lacto veggie for 5 years now
and i do it because I DO NOT LIKE THE TASTE OF MEAT
seriously
i used to like chicken
never pork, bacon, fish, or beef
one day i just decided to cut out chicken
i like the veggie foods better its not chewy and veiny like real meat
everyone thinks im veggie because of animal rights
now i have learned alot more
and i stay this way for health reasons
sorry but i don't care about the animals
slaughter a cow and eat to your hearts delight
if you want heath problems go for it
juicy steak dripping blood on your plate
sure whatever makes you happy
i choose to eat healthier
don't assume im some freak about saving 'innocent lives' of animals

No point of morality, its you eat what you get. In cold climate countries , I think it is v. difficult to grow vegetables, so they are non-vegetarians.

Moral? I thought we were supposed to be plant murderers and stinky hippies... and we can't even eat animal crackers. (/sarcasm)

My reasons (in order of importance to me):
Health
Spiritual
Animal and Environmental (tie)

Because most vegetarians are in it for moral values. It may not be the sole reason, but it's still a corner stone reason for most veggies. I am a meat eater and so is everyone I know and I don't know any of them that are ignorant enough to believe you are in it solely for 'moral values'.

On another note, and this is just an assumption, some people may think you are in it for moral reasons because there is no other true reason to be a vegetarian. Meat is a valuable resource in our diet and if you cut it out of your daily intake you need to take supplements to fill the gaps. Therefore some people may believe if you say it's for health reasons, it simply is not true.

I agree, I just think meat is disgusting. I am not against eating meat-I make it for my kids and husband, but I just don't like it. If you aren't into meat then don't worry about it.

I have to agree with all of the people who said that the most vocal vegetarians are the ones who go around saying to meat eaters, "OMG how can you possibly eat those cute little animals! You're going to hell for eating God's pwecious kweeeeechures!"
When my sister first became a vegetarian, I was worried that she, too, constantly would go around preaching to all of us as well, but she didn't. She simply became a vegetarian because she doesn't like the way meat tastes. I have since become more tolerant of vegetarians, and I have even contemplated vegetarianism myself. I didn't go through with it though, because I like meat too much.
My sister recently started eating chicken and fish again because she is breastfeeding and the baby wasn't getting enough protein from her vegetarian diet.

I was rasied this way and that the kind of food I like to eat now.

I don't really care that much for animals. I am a football player and I like heavy metal and I am for the war.

Try buying some fresh meat. If you are eating something decomposed, get the license plate off of the car trunk you bought it out of and turn them in.

Your a quick one, nothing gets past you freddie.
