Struggleing vegetarian HELP (please vegetarians only)?!

Question: Why when i tell myself no meat, I want it so bad? What do I do to overcome this cycle?

You vegetarians, you friends with meat-eaters? How u not get tempted by them?

Also I feel bad about eating eggs and cheese (with rennet) and want to stop that BUT THAT MEANS ALMOST EVERYTHING IN RESTAURANT AND BAKERY IS OFF!!!!

But it is some call in my soul but my body wants to eat it all WHAT DO I DO?

tu

First of all, don't stress about the eggs and cheese quite yet. Maybe in time you can bring yourself to give them up but for now just focus on doing what you can. You are clearly struggling with just not eating meat, so just focus on that for now.

As for your cravings for meat.. there may be a few reasons why you are feelings this way.

1. You may be hungry. I remember after shifting to a vegetarian diet always feeling hungry for awhile and I would crave meat or cheese to "fill me up". What I eventually realized is that it was OK for me to eat a greater volume of food on a vegetarian diet (as long as it's not junk food) since you can eat more fruits and veggies and get the same caloric intake. If this is your problem eat more of the fruits and vegetables without worry and make sure you are getting enough fat in your diet with nuts, beans or some other healthy source.

2. You might be craving a familiar taste or texture. In this case, seek out meat substitutes to ease your transition. Morningstar Farms and Bocca make fake meat that can be quite good and satisfy your cravings. These products are still heavily processed, though, so after you get used to not eating meat wean yourself off these as well and only eat them as an occasional treat. You can find home-made meat replacement recipes as well. (Send me a message if you want a seitan or "bacon" recipe)

3 Your body might be craving something you are deficient in. Are you eating well-balanced meals? It might be a good idea to track what you eat over the course of a few days, compare it to daily recommened values and see if you need to adjust your diet. You can get everything you need from a vegetarian diet (even protein :-P) but if you aren't eating well, as in any other diet, you might not be getting what you need.

As for dealing with friends that eat meat, just make sure that whatever you have is tasty too, and that should help. Eventually the smell of meat stopped being good to me. It smells like death to me now, and I often lose my appetite when I sit next to a friend eating something very meaty. Your body will adjust in time.

1) to all the ppl who say that vegetarians don't get enough protein, we do! trust me. i've been a vegetarian for quite a while, nd i have a sufficient amt of protein. meat isn't the only source.
2) to answer ur question. if ur not a natural-born vegetarian (like I am) then it will be hard. (note: my answer is based on friends' experiences) instead of jumping head on into becoming a vegetarian, take it one step at a time. slowly cut back on meat. don't just stop it immediately cuz its known to make u puke cuz ur body isn't used to the new diet.
3)don't worry about cheese. im pretty sure it's not made from a cow. its made by a cow. eggs, im not so sure about.
4) im not tempted to eat meat cuz im a natural-born vegetarian. so personally i just think meat is disgusting. but for u, once u get into the vegetarian mindset, it's easier. just try as MUCH as u can to not eat meat. if its easier for u think of it as 'eww, im eating meat! eww, im eating a chicken and the gooey insides...' nd just make it seem really disgusting. u'll lose ur appetite. it's the way kids are with veggies. they think it's absolutely disgusting. rite? so they don't eat it. they're not tempted. and treat urself every once in a while. like if u don't eat meat for 3 months or something, treat urself to something like an extra slice of pie or dessert or something else u like.

Don't struggle, just eat a balanced diet and wear protection when you watch movies.

Jaffa sounds like he's or she's real hard core.

I never struggle. Even when I am with friends who eat meat. It still revolts me. I keep it to myself though. But if they start anything, then it is GAME ON!!!

keep one eye on the ball, the other on the prize
i have never been tempted by that 'food' they eat
try this = for every item you elliminate from your diet, replace it with something new (and healthy of course)
learn to love love love salad, when it comes to restaurants
bakery stuff is overrated.
gross yourself out. remember why you are doing this.
the longer you go, the easier it is.
you can do this.

Why are you a vegetarian in the first place? You can't get all the essential nutrients you need without protein, and people who don't eat meat usually don't get enough of it.
