Is there a heathy way to switch to a vegetarian diet ?!
Simply keep in mind that variety provides a hedge against deficiencies whether you are vegetarian or not. Eat a wide spectrum of organic fruit and vegetables, whole grains, beans and legumes and you will be far more healthy than if you didn't go veggie. Let's face it pesticides, growth hormones and antibiotics found in flesh foods are really not what nourishes anyone.
As for consulting an MD about nutrition and the vegetarian alternative -- HA! Most of those dear ones learn pharmacy and surgical procedures really well, but when it comes to health and diet? The nutrition courses offered in medical schools are rudimentary and not required for graduation! You are better off searching the web for real information and talking with people who are vegetarian but not food fadists. Keep in mind one cardinal rule in your research however, always ask about the source of the funding for the research and beware of food fads and diets that are too self-limiting. If you make your food choices too hard on yourself and your family and friends, you won't stick to your vegetarian commitment and that would be a pity -- for you, the animals and the planet.

Best of health to you,
Answers: Sure there is a healthy way to switch to the Vegetarian diet and a healthy way to be vegetarian, however, just not eating meat, fish, fowl, game or eggs won't make it a healthy diet necessarily. You need to be sure that you are getting a balanced diet. Protein isn't really an issue --- everything has protein to some extent. Vitamin B12 is the issue, especially so if you choose to go vegan. Making sure that your food choices include a source of B12, which is found in Nutritional Yeast, Tempeh, and Miso, should make that a non-issue too. Health food stores offer vegetarian food choices that make it easier now for people in transition to be vegetarian than it was forty or more years ago. Look in the refrigerator section of the Health Food Store for LightLife, Yves, and Tofurky products. Many supermarkets now offer some vegetarian products and organic foods. Even the Chinese grocery stores offer soy analog foods which resemble non-veg foods, like extraordinary Vege USA's Vege Ham, or Vege Beef Chunk, Vege Fish, Vege Shrimp, Vege Scallops or Vege Smoked Drumstick and Vege Chicken Nuggets. And of course you can certainly work with grains and beans or legumes, tofu, tempeh and seitan.

Best of health to you,
Sure, you just need to make sure you are still eating plenty of whole grains, fruits, veggies, dairy and other forms of protein since you will not be getting it from the meats. You also need to take your vitamins.
Yes there is a heathy way to switch to a vegetarian diet.
Wheather you switch instantly or gradually it is healthy. So long as you eat healthier foods. I switched instantly and actually felt the difference within a week or so while others who progress into it may not feel a difference for weeks but experience as much of a full cleansing period. Unless you start filling up on junk food there is no unhealthy way to switch.
probably , but why would you want to
Yes there is.
Go slow and gather knowledge along the way.
There is more to it besides the obvious.
When in doubt, research and ask other practicing vegs.
Have been one for many years and gained knowledge along the way.
Good luck!
I am a former chef and do consume a mostly vegetarian diet for my medical reasons, one word of caution, if you are meat eater now, plan on being hungry the first little while, what I did is eat more times a day, but smaller meals and snacks.
Salads, meat alternatives grain/legumes and rices, tofu and tofu products are great, but tend until your used the foods not be entirely filling, so eat your normal 3 meals a day and 3 snacks in between to keep your energy levels up and not feel empty and dragging between meals.
You will be surprised what it will do to your energy levels and the stamina you have, just make sure you eat a balanced diet and if nessessary to help in the beginning take a multi-vitamin supplement to help until you have completly transitioned over.
Here is what i did:
I Slowly stopped eating it. And cut everything out but fish, Then after a while i stopped eating fish. Worked out great! but you DO have to eat healthy. Eat things like beans rice and corn, Nuts and fruits and veggies, Otherwise you will get sick. And dont call yourself a vegetarian if you decide to keep eating fish, Thats just retarted.
Yes. You just stop eating meat.
when did suddenly vegetarianism become unhealthy?
i'm not even bothering.
google.com it... healthy way? what! ok you're right.. eating vegetables and fruits.. is bad for you, you'll die so don't do it.
stick with meat and processed foods OH and eat all the dairy you want.
(see how long you last.)
yes slowly start limiting your meat products
Vegetarianism is very healthy. We have less heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, prostate cancer, colon cancer, kidney disease and lower cholesterol levels. You're not missing much by cutting out meat (except for saturated fat and cholesterol) so you don't need to worry about replacing much. Most meat-eaters get far and away too much protein and even vegetarians in the developed world usually eat more than is needed. You'll need to make sure you're eating a variety of whole plant foods instead (fruits, vegetables and whole grains) and that you make sure to include some iron-rich foods each day. Don't just replace meat with a lot of extra dairy or a bunch of junk food. You can always pick up a book like "Becoming Vegetarian" by Brenda Davis and Vesanto Melina to fine-tune your nutritional knowledge. They even have one of those "Complete Idiot's Guide" books for going veg, which covers the nutritional basics.
You could see a nutritionist to be sure and assured.
Yes there is. Ask your doctor! It's very serious to switch and put your body into shock. Your doctor can help you if this is what you want to do. Otherwise wear lots of padding since you could very well pass out often!
