Is it difficult raising a vegan child when some of the family members eat meat?!
Answers: Only people with experience on the subject please.
It only difficult during the times when the child is unable to understand that he/she will not get what he/she wants ( which is the different item on Daddy's plate!). The best to do would be to ask those omnivores in the family to cut back on meat at meals the entire family sits down to. If they don't, you just have to try your best to conceal those meats, or stay stubborn about your little one not eating whatever it is others are. Now as they grow they will want what others have, then it becomes your job to help him/her feel the least out of place as possible. If everyone else is having ice cream, give your little one (hopefully not until birthday, but your choice) some rice or soy version (my kids' birthday party consisted of vegan cakes and both dairy and soy ice cream....dairy was for husband and guests). Try to make yummy vegan desserts that all will like so you don't need to make two separate ones. For my hubby's birthday dinner we made mock chicken for the kids and myself so that he could have a hassle free fried chicken meal. It really is based on how willing to bend the other members are. But after a certain age (my daughter is now 3.5 yrs) you can tell them, sorry we don't eat that, by I will make something similar and they don't freak out!
Yes, but my sister is a vegetarian and she has no proble even though we all eat meat. Being a vegan is too extreme. It will be hard. everything has meat or dairy or eggs.
yes.
it will be a little difficult to find iteams they will eat but my mom didnt have that haard of a tme with my brother.
Very challenging I'm sure, but can be done.
BTW.. there is NOTHING unhealthy about raising a vegan child.. veganism, done right, is appropriate for any stage of life including infancy, childhood, adolescence, adulthood, pregnancy and lactation
My sister in law is vegan and has been for years. She was vegan though both of her trouble-free pregnancies and breastfed both her babies while being vegan (occasionally supplementing with soy formula). Her oldest is now a TALL, strong, healthy, not-too-thin or too chubby 3 year old who just RADIATES health. Her younger is 2 months old and thriving on his vegan mother's milk. She had both children naturally (In a special "birthing pool") the first at a birthing clinic and the second at home Aug 19, 2007.
Anyone who says vegans are sickly or pale or that it's unsafe for children should see these two kids!!
My son was a vegan until a few years back and I found that it actually makes the whole family eat healthier cause you tend to cook with more vegetables. I always had pickled beets and bean salads in the fridge and cooked with lentils mare then i used to. If I was making a casserole I used a two-part divided dish and cooked baked vegetables in one half and meat casserole in the other. Its a little more work but if you like to cook its a fun challenge.
sorry i got no idea on this subject, i just wanted to say hi!, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
but i agree that its a much healthier diet!,, i wish i could get me and my family onto this vegan diet!, xxxxxxxxx
I was raised vegan and if I had kids I would do the same. It was hard for me when I was younger especially at parties but you get used to it. I was actually alot healthier because of it. I also found it hard sometimes when we all sat down for a dinner roast and I just had vegies. My mum wouldnt eat meat and that made me feel better, I wasnt alone. Its just something you get used to and then other people eating meat doesnt bother you. You realise your not missing anything especially when you think of the animals.
I think the only complicated part would be to teaching that you think eating animals is wrong without making Dad & Sibling seem like bad guys.
It's next to impossible and unnecessary. Allow the child to make its own decisions, within reason, about what it wants to eat.
where is the child getting its protein? pills?
protein (found from milk and cheeses) is what makes healthy and strong bones. a growing child needs that. and those processed "vegan friendly" cheeses are not the real deal.
However, fruits are a great children to eat, they learn to like those over candy. that would make a great start
