I'm new to being a vegetarian and Im trying some new things but I'm not so much a fan of soy. What do you eat?!
Answers: This goes out to all Vegetarians. I really need help cause I really want to be a vegetarian because I hate animal cruelty!
Well, I am a vegetarian and I don't eat meat or fish. Anything breathing is off-limits for me. :) You can eat anything made by Boca or Morning Star but that is nowhere near all there is. Those are just 2 of my favorite brands. If you like ribs, the best vegetarian ribs I have found are Gardenburger BBQ Riblets (veggie riblets) These taste exactly like ribs. I just became a vegetarian last year. (I am 13) I thought becoming a vegetarian would be hard but I have found it extremely easy.
Be careful when looking for soups. Most of them are made with chicken stock. A good veg friendly soup is Progresso Light Italian-Style Vegetable (or any other veggie based Progresso.)
If you know where to look, there is a veggie substitute for any food. I personally like Cedar Lake Vegi-Scallops.
I hope this has helped you a bit. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions or want more suggestions! Good luck. :)

(some of this is made with soy but it tastes the same!)
Welcome to the Club! I eat a bunch of fruits and vegies, pasta, peanut butter & jelly, junk food, and alot of other good, bad, & healthy food are out there...just anything that dosen't have meat!
(Oh, and you'll be needing to take mulivitamins a day, your supposed to even when your not a vegetarian, but a vegitarian needs to because we are lacking a little bit of some essentials witch could cause problems for us in the future....hope to help!)
Some real good salad get the recipe from a restaurant
What "soy" have you tried?
Anything that looks good, I make it animal-free.
It just takes practice to make things indistinguishable.
Eat peanuts or other types of nuts. You can make a mix of nuts and raisins (they're delicious) or nuts and honey (delicious too).
Salads (all kinds lol), and I liked grilled vegetable paninis with goat cheese (depends on the type of vegetarian you are), pasta, homemade trailmix that has raisin, nuts, sesame seeds, cranberries, honey...
I eat soy products along with the vegetables and fruits and grains and nuts. They make all sorts of soy that isn't just plain soy.
I'm not a vegetarian but I try to eat healthier carbohydrates than white rice, potatoes, etc.
So, my nutritionist turned me on to Quinoa. It's a very good source of protein. Here's a link with more information:

Good Luck!
Soy burgers, peanuts, brusselsprouts, broccoli, grapefruit, beets, vanilla soymilk, tofu, basically anything that is vegetables or fruit.
Beans and legumes are good sources of protein and you can make a lot of tasty things with them. Leafy greens, dairy if you still eat that (you didn't say you were vegan), and nuts are also good for protein. Pretty much, it's the protein you need to recoup without meat. Searching online for vegetarian recipes helps and is where I got a lot of my ideas.
Potato and rice feature more in my diet than soy. Too much soy product leads to constipation and anyway I prefer the taters and rice I was brought up on! There's a great trick my grandmother used to liven up brown rice - she added a pinch of black pepper as well as the usual salt and oil or butter while it cooked, and the pepper gives it a kick. Herb salt - there are plenty around to choose from - is also excellent on top of baked taters. Good luck, Veggie Newbie!
Okay I am not a vegetarian I used to be. Now it depends on what type of Vegetarian you are trying to be a Vegan which means no animal products at all or basic Vegetarian.
Basic there are huge amount of cheeses, and other sources of Protein. Now back to Vegan there are a lot of differnt things you can do with pasta, and the Sanitarian health food compson has Lots of differeent beans and different ways of doing soya bean. Gluten flour is good you can make gluten steaks etc basically research on the Net will provide you with lots of clues. Do not overlook nuts there are lots of nuts macadamias, walnuts, cashews, Brazil, waterchestnut list goes on all very good for you providing natural oil and protein which your body needs. Have fun I really prefer steak I don't believe that animals are mistreated but humanly killed to feed me.
Tofu comes in all kinds of alternative "meats" that are really close to the 'real' thing.
There is Quinoa. A rice like grain that counts as a full protein!! Cook exactly like rice, even in a rice cooker...adding kale, onions etc... this is a complete meal!
EVERYONE says peanut butter...but there are better alternatives to this as well...
Brown rice, black or pink beans, lots of tortillas (whole grain) cheese salsa....
LOTS of vegetable based soups such as Sweet Potato-Squash Soup...YUM!!
a few ideas to start you off:
rice milk is better for you if you are female and have a history of breast cancer in your family
brown rice mixed with walnuts served with cranberry sauce has the texture of meatloaf and tastes incredible
ground unsalted cashews make a wonderful cream that you can serve with fruit or do a multitude of things with
If there is a chip, coronary health improvement program in your community it is a good way to learn to cook eat and live vegan, the program is provided through hospitals and the seventh day adventist church, but they are in no way preachy or trying to convert you to their religion, they just provide support in improving your health through changing your eating habits, my mother and father entered the program 5 years ago due to her cholesterol levels and the rest of the family joined in after my older sister was diagnosed with breast cancer. They have recipe's on their site as well if you don't have or can't afford the program.

I rarely eat soy.
I like veggie burgers made from veggies and rice, not the soy kind.
Occasionally I'll eat seitan which is made from wheat gluten.
I just had some last night at a restaurant called Native Foods. Mmm it was sort of like fried chicken.
Otherwise, I don't try and substitute meat - I just make my recipes without it. You get used to not always having something meaty in your meal. If you are avoiding dairy too (because the cows are even worse off than the ones used for meat) then you get used to not having cheese anymore, too. All that stuff just seems nasty to me now.
Yeah i dont know how anyone likes it actually :/
most of the vegans and vegetarians i know dont like it either, especially how unaturally processed most of it is.
What do i eat? well everything in sight i can eat usually : )
if your talking protein, i think eating a variety of legumes, nuts, grains and seeds is far better than trying to survive on one single protein source :/
i generally keep mixed nuts seeds and dried fruit in a bag at work and at home, some of that and a banana is a great little after workout protein source i find.
i also like to have some beans or something like that whenever i have salad, which is quite a lot : ) mostly during the day.
at night i often have curry and spaghetti, i just put whatever i want in it, i put whatever in it, like beans or chic peas or lentils.
i dont mind veggie burgers, or even just having the patty broken into a salad.
i eat a fair bit of muesli as well, i do a lot of cycling.
also eat plenty of brocolli, pumpkin, avocado, olive oil, hummus...
Good Luck! : )
Hey - great question. As far as eating out - there are a lot of vegetarian options at the following types of cuisines: Chinese, Indian, Italian, Mexican, Thai, subs, etc.
Chinese and Indian restaurants usually have a section of the menu for vegetarian dishes. Even Burger King has a veggie burger. I can always find something decent to eat with two exceptions - steak houses and fancy seafood restaurants.
Try to eat healthy - higher portions of vegetables, fruits, beans, and unrefined grains and small portions of fatty things like cheese, oil, french fries, etc. Unfortunately - a lot of vegetarian options are very cheesy - but it is possible to ask for no cheese or less cheese.
I didn't kill the cow -- STEAK :)
Vegetarians of the world are not going to stop animals being used as food ---- trust me.
