Vegetarian/ speeches?!

Question: I'm doing a persuasive speech in school about going vegetarian. Can anyone think of any unique attention getters that will get the classes attention? We cant use any audio/ pictures and I dont want to take the easy way out and just say the amount of animals killed each year. I think i can do better then that.

Help!

Paint a picture for everyone.
Forget the statistics, go for the gut.
Go for the emotions.
Speak loudly, speak with passion, and they will listen.
Imagine you are trying to enrapture a mob of people to help you.

Look up some historical vegetarian quotes from Einstein, Sir Newton, or Ben Franklin, Pythagoras, and etc. and throw those out in between each of your points. These quotes have inspired people for decades and longer. You can even quote Jesus from the Nazarene Gospel -- that will get people listening, even if they are not into Jesus, but just to look around and see what reactions others are having to that... http://www.thenazareneway.com/

How about: Imagine if your body could heal itself? or What if the power of your health was in your hands? > Obviously, vegetarians get sick too, but you could amp up the health benefits of eating a healthy vegetarian diet, as opposed to the health risks that are involved with eating fatty meats and such.

If you're doing this because you're a true believer in vegetarianism as a solution to cruelty, you're already in danger of killing them with earnestness.
Make 2 charts relating to calories, embodied energy, the food chain, and global warming. Show that passing crops through animals in order to deliver meat 500 miles away is a waste of planetary resources, etc. compared to eating locally grown vegetables.
Students are getting all excited about recycling, global warming, etc. Without dragging the Iraq Oil War into it, you can relate environmentalism to sustainable agriculture to vegetarianism.

If I were to give a speech like that I would use persuasion from the animals' points of view. First pretend as though you are a cow, then chicken and so on. At the end of your speech maybe you could have hand outs of recipes and website links, if permissible. Some sites for research: peta.org, peta2.org, aavs.org, vegetarianteen.com, vegcooking.com, caringconsumer.com

Vegetarians and vegans don't give speeches they are called "rants". Good luck with your rant.

Check this out, this is great for smart and anppy comebacks for those ignorant questions non-vegetarians sometimes ask due to not being educated enough on the subject.
