Are public schools required to offer meals for vegans?!

Question: My 7th grader attends public school and is a vegan. The school doesn't offer non meat meal alternatives for their vegan/vegetarian students. Are they required to? where could I find this information?

Public schools can't even offer a good education and you think they're going to be able to provide your kid with a vegan meal? No way. This is the same system that counts ketchup as a vegetable serving, remember? Pack your kid a lunch or better yet, HOME SCHOOLING.

im pretty sure they serve salads...

every school has alternatives

Contact the School District with your inquiry.

Some are, some aren't....depends on how liberal the constituency is usually....the school district offices can tell you the guidelines that they work under.

No, they are not required. You should just contact them and ask about or suggest vegan alternatives. The easier you make it for them, the more willing they'll be to work with you.

No, of course they aren't. How could they possible offer meals for all dietary restrictions? Kosher? Muslim? Diabetic? Believe me, you and every other parent will be far better off sending lunch. I work in the Denver Public Schools and am pretty horrified by the food - mostly carbs and sugar. (Although, in all fairness, I see only breakfast. Maybe lunch is better.)

It is not often required, but some schools will offer an option if it is asked for.

Every district I've ever been around is required by law to offer at least a vegetarian option but not neccesarily a vegan. I really think it's sad that they don't offer a vegan not just for vegans but for overall health purposes. It seems like the schools are no longer concerned with childrens health.

No,t hey are not required to by "law", no where is.
