I HATE EATING MEAT!!!! I feel so bad about it....any tips about how to become a vegitarian?!


Question: First thing, is to convince yourself that vegetarian food is healthier (In fact more and more people are becoming vegetarian in european countries nowadays and most good doctor will agree that veg in a healthier way in any case). Once you are convinced and sure of yourself only you should announce to others that you want to be vegetarian.

Normal Problems :

1. Your family is non-vegetarian and prepare mainly non-veg dishes.
2. You can not stop eating meat or fish since you like the taste so much.
3. Your (so-called) friends will try to discourage you by saying it is not healthy and incomplete food.
4. When you are with non-veg friends, they ask you to take an exception once more.
5. You might loose weight a little in the beginning and people will scare you that you are becoming unhealthy,
Solutions:
1. This is a basic and most difficult situation for many. You need to convince your family that you want to stop taking meat . So they need to prepare some balanced diet for you.
You should have rice/wheat + pulses/beans + vegetables and leaves in your meal. It is not necessary to take all of these at all meals. Once a day itself is more than enough. If you take a glass of milk a day then it will balance out without any problem. (milk is not necessary, but is an easy way out).

2. This is one problem you have to solve yourself. Get your priorities right on taste vs health

3. If you are convinced it is good for you, you can bluntly tell them that it is my own business. (You can also try to explain your stand if your friend is a reasonable person)

4. Never take exceptions. Once you do that you have mostly failed.

5. Tell them that when anybody changes their food habits, they are likely to loose or gain weight temporarily and it will balance out later if the food is also balanced.

Good luck in your journey to be vegetarian. I am a vegetarian and for last 25 years I have never been to see a doctor for my sake.

Gradually stop eating the red meat, and take in more vegetable.

Then stop the white meat (chicken, pork), supplement with egg, milk etc...

Then stop meat and take tofu as supplement, go to some store to buy some vegetarian supplement for the nutrition missing in meat.

You can't stop directly as your body may not get used to it.

Easy, just stop eating it! Get tofu or soy based meals instead and just have that instead of meat. Get vegetarian recipes.Eat macaroni and cheese, potato soup, lentil soup,make a hotpot with vegetarian sausages, scrambled eggs, beans on toast,baked potato, pasta with tomato sauce.

Why not spend a little extra money on animals that are well treated, with plenty of space, and actual medical care. There are many farms in the US, that treat their animals great. The pigs get back scratches, and live in fields with man made caves. Or, cows that live on lush grass and wide open fields.

You can also purchase animals killed on the farm. To meet USDA requirements you may not order pieces, you must order half or whole animal. Otherwise they have to go to the slaughterhouse, and that causes them stress.

I'll tell you about organic, free range pig farming, because that's what I know best. I'm speaking from personal experience and this great treatment is not always the case. So research first. Never assume it's nice because the web page says so.

So here's how we do it. Let's start with the birth of piglets.
In the wild, a pregnant sow will leave the herd before birth and give birth alone. Getting away from the other pigs means that a sow doesn't have to worry about other pigs eating her piglets, which is common behavior. Sows that can't get away from the herd get very stressed, and sometimes eat their own piglets.

Small farms often put sows in stalls for a few weeks, until the piglets are big enough to join the herd. That isn't cruel: the sow relaxes because she doesn't have to fear for her babies, and any sows inclined to eat the piglets of other sows don't get a chance to do it. That allows a farmer to keep sows that he'd otherwise have to cull.

Stalls are quite roomy. A sow and her piglets can all turn around, play, etc. A stall is not the same thing as a "gestation crate" that confinement farms use.

Piglets are instinctively afraid of humans. That makes it very tough to get photographs of them. Sows also don't want you near their piglets. Piglets constantly move to put a sow between you and them, and the sows grunt and make noises to tell you to keep back.

Mangalitsa sows are very protective of their babies. They rarely savage their own piglets.

When a sow is afraid for her babies, she can attack at any time, without warning, from any direction. They are big, fast and powerful animals. There's a saying that the difference between an inexperienced and experienced pig farmer is a few scars.

Boars are huge, strong animals whose main goal in life is to mate with sows. If there is a sow in heat near a boar, he'll wreck things to reach her, and try to fight off any other interested boars.

That said, boars seem nice to humans, and when they aren't working, like getting scratched and fed. Boars have long tusks, which they sharpen constantly, by nervously rubbing their teeth against each other. Boars also foam at the mouth, releasing pheromones that put females in the mood.

Boars can do a lot of damage very quickly when agitated. All boars on the farm have their natural razor-sharp tusks, because they are so tame. Most farmers would cut their tusks, but this can hurt the boar and can lead to infection - which can get in the way of him working.

When boars are near a sow in heat, they give her a lot of attention. They get very excited, chase her around and make noises. The sow tries to get away and makes noises back at them. A boar loses a lot of weight pursuing sows during the breeding season due to all the activity.

The pigs are outside all year long. Our farrowing sows (the ones having piglets) are only confined for a few weeks with their piglets in a stall, until it is clear they are big enough to join the herd.

We need the stalls because our pastures do not allow the sows enough privacy. We had problems with dominant sows eating the piglets of weaker sows. Other than confining them at birth, the pigs are free to run around a big pasture.

There are great caring farmers out there. Myself included. We will not slaughter a pig if it is stressed. I will put off slaughter for days if I have to. Stress will release hormones that can ruin the quality of meat. We put too much time, money, and effort into raising a quality pig.

Rest assured, animals on farms similar to mine have a wonderful life. They are fed well. They lie under the sun in the soft grass. They roll around in the many mud pools we create. They have positive human interaction. We pet them, talk to them, and treat them with care.

Intensive pig farming is absolutely deplorable, but there are farmers who care. So if humane treatment is your concern, please look into hand raised, free roaming, organic animal farming. Just do your homework.

Your gonna have to drop your IQ points considerably and instead feed the seeds of emtional disturbance that have been lurking in your sense of self for many years.

You're taking this way too seriously. There's really nothing to it. Just choose vegetarian dishes when you eat out, and don't buy meat at the grocery store. Quite simple.

I'm vegetarian, and I'm glad you're trying this lifestyle.

In order to survive, you'll need different protein sources that don't include meat. Eggs and milk are allowed- so long as you're planning on being vegetarian, not vegan. Fake meat producers like Morningstar ((the BEST vegetarian food)) can help you there. With everything from veggie chicken to ribs to hamburgers out there, I'm sure you'll find something you enjoy.

When you feel tempted to eat meat, remember that you're helping other living creatures by boycotting the meat industry. After a while, you won't even miss meat.

Well, I am a vegetarian and I don't eat meat or fish. Anything breathing is off-limits for me. :) You can eat anything made by Boca or Morning Star but that is nowhere near all there is. Those are just 2 of my favorite brands. If you like ribs, the best vegetarian ribs I have found are Gardenburger BBQ Riblets (veggie riblets) These taste exactly like ribs. I just became a vegetarian last year. (I am 13) I thought becoming a vegetarian would be hard but I have found it extremely easy.

Be careful when looking for soups. Most of them are made with chicken stock. A good veg friendly soup is Progresso Light Italian-Style Vegetable (or any other veggie based Progresso.)

If you know where to look, there is a veggie substitute for any food. I personally like Cedar Lake Vegi-Scallops.
