Do you vegetarians and vegans just think their being stupid and judgmental?!

Question: I was wondering... Most people I know think vegetarians and vegans, (the few that know what a vegan is), can't handle anything gory. I'm a vegetarian, but I can still handle things gory. Only to a point, granted, but we all have our limits, eh?

I was wondering how many vegans and/or vegetarians can handle gore?

It's the reality and torture factors for me.

If it's a movie or TV show, I'll probably be able to handle the gore. Probably.

I simply don't like to watch people (or animals) tortured though whether in real life or on the screen. Hostel was pretty bad. I squirmed a bit. I shut The Hills Have Eyes off because I can't handle realistic rape scenes (there is no worse torture).

On the other hand I can watch stuff that is just silly like The Exorcist and Hellraiser etc without flinching. I can even laugh at them. Throw in the "magical" factor and I'm good. It's fake and I know it basically. Like Freddy Kruger coming back in the kids dreams or Jason being reanimated to hunt everyone on Crystal Lake...I'm capable of going "yeah right!" to the mystical nature of all of that.

But people being kidnapped and tortured for the amusement of violent lunatics...too real. People being messed up in a nuclear explosion and therefore gone crazy and homicidal...too real. etc.

Reality and torture factors.

im a vegetarian and i can handle gore just fine

I know vegans and vegetarians who can handle gory things just fine.

I, on the other hand, cannot and I eat meat.

I'm not a vegetarian and I don't like gore. I lived on a dairy farm and participated in several butcherings. It always bothered me to see the animal bleed and die. I just had to look at it as a part of life. It never made me want to a veggie though.

I'm not a vegetarian nor a vegan, but the ones that I know (and I know quite a few since I attend a fairly large university) can handle gore quite fine. Some of them can handle it better than I can, and I eat meat. For some reason, I'm fine with being in a butcher shop, but not always fine with what's in the movies. On the flip side, I know plenty of people who can't stand butcher shops, which is partly why they are vegetarians or vegans, but they can handle movie gore with no adverse effects. I don't think this correlation works out as well as your friends think it does.

i can to a certain extent, as much as any of my meat eating friends can. i dont like it by any means, but my dislike of gore isnt what keeps me from eating meat. thats a problem anyone can sidestep these days; skip the slaughterhouses and pick up your burger at the store instead. though i do think that anyone who eats meat should know what happens for them to get it.

I am a vegetarian and I can handle gore. I can easily kill animals myself if I wanted to, but I choose not to. I choose not to have others do it for me either. Meat does not gross me out. What sickens me is that animals have to die for a vanity. Meat is not necessary to live. It's a frill that animals pay for with their lives.

I can handle it but that doesn't mean I want it to intentionally happen. I've been to accidents where people have bled all over and I've been in the room when a friend had a cyst removed (lots of gore and it smelled horrible.) However I would never go someplace in which that gore was intended for death or torture. I think that's just sick.

Weak stomach here. I prefer to live life gore free to the greatest extent possible. Smells are quite enough to make me feel queasy. To watch events such as killing an animal and the rest is out of the question...I would get sick and then bawl for hours.

I know HOW an animal is killed(slauterhouse and all the other possible ways) and that is quite enough....

That has been that way my whole life...so I really don't think being a vegetarian has a whole lot to do with it.

I used to not mind gory horror movies so much, but since going vegan, I can't even watch CSI without turning away several times an episode. Unfortunately, it's pretty bad.

I handle gore very well, I just don't get any type of satisfaction from eating animals.

When you say gore do you mean like in movies? Haha. I love the SAW movies which are pretty gory. However, I can't stand the gore movies on Peta2.com with animals dying and all that. I can't even read the stories on that site. It's too sad for me.

Al Gore has his place. I thought the veggies would like him.

I am used to saving sheep from the brink of death from a maggot investation, which includes putting my hand under the skin adn rummaging around the carcass to get maggots out, and quite happy to eat rice that evening.

I think that counts.

I don't really understand your headline question in relation to your details though.

I can handle gore. I can't handle loose teeth. Ew gross. *shiver*

I'm vegetarian and I went to nursing school. I've seen surgery and it doesn't bother me.

Define gore. Are you talking horror flicks or watching an animal being slaughtered or what?

I think anyone that makes a statement that begins with...All (fill in the blank) think, feel, do, are (fill in insult)
Are ignorant.

You need gore to keep life interesting.

I'm vegan.
