What's this about red wine? What does it have in it to make it non-vegan?!
Answers: I'm new to this site and have been perusing some of the answers... red wines comes up a lot- why? Is white wine ok?
Most red and white wine is not suitable for veggies nor vegans. Judging by the shelves I look through I would say its about 80% not suitable.
It is often fined ( cleared ) with isinglass, gelatine or via bone char filters. Some use eggs
Some red wines have beetle derived colouring.
It is easy to find veggie and vegan wine, you just need to look. In the UK, COOP and ASDA are particularly good at marking them up.
Most ales, bitters and lagers are not vegetarian for similar product reasons.
Alchohol above 1.2 % ABV is exempt from food label reguataions and therefore a bit of a nightmare - if it doesn't say veggie or vegan, you can make no assumptions
The veggie society give some details here:

Adam ( first answer ) doesn't know what hes drinkng I'm afraid - no wine is made just from grapes.
Found this link, didn't know this......GROSS
Wines And Beers
Wine is clarified, or cleared, after fermentation. Some of the ingredients used include:
- edible gelatins (made from bones)
- isinglass (made from the swim bladders of fish)
- casein and potassium caseinate (milk proteins)
- animal albumin (egg albumin and dried blood powder)
I became a vegetarian for the simple reason that I didn't like meat--and not for "animal ethics" reasons. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't let the use of fish products during the clarification process stop me from enjoying a great glass of wine.
I can understand the uprising against the way cats are prepared for food in the east...I saw a video of a cat being dunked alive into boiling water and then into ice water so it went into shock and the fur just fell out. This was done so people wouldn't have to go through the trouble of skinning it. I think that is terrible. If you want to eat a cat, at least find a way to do it without tourturing it first.
But fish eggs in wine---who cares?
alcohol is immoral and so is eating anything that is not vegan.
Isinglass is prepared from the bladder of the sturgeon fish and is used for clarifying some wines and beers. Not all.
it is vegan, its wine made from grapes, just like white wine.
Maybe a few bugs get caught up in the processig of it, but thats any food or drink.
