Vegetarians and vegans.........?!

Question: why becum a vegan or vegetarian( besides health or weight that is) if u think your making a difference by bringing the meat company less money for slaughter, its completely pointless actually cuz there are still many people who buy meat. so if u think ur doing something "good", your not, well maybe for your health, cuz remember millions of animals will still suffer even though you dont buy meat.

With that attitude nothing would progress. You might as well burn as many fossil fuels as you can because if you don't they'd still exist and someone else will use them. The point is you as an individual can be part of something bigger. I may just be one vegan but the more vegetarians and vegans there are, eventually the less DEMAND there'll be for meat and therefore less animals would have to suffer.

And then there's your conscience to deal with. If there were thousands of people killing little children would you just think 'oh well, everyone else is doing it so I may as well start killing too'? No you'd probably listen to your conscience telling you not to harm them. Or if millions of people started eating human flesh would you start eating it too? The human meat would be there anyway so you may as well eat it right? I'm not trying to tell you to eat humans, I'm just trying to get you to understand the way we think... you don't have to agree with us but just understand that us vegs have a more sensitive conscience and so see eating meat as immoral. You see meat as a food but I see it as death and I don't want to put death in my body just like I wouldn't want to eat a dead human. Meat to me equals pain and the only reason people eat it is to please their tastebuds. I'm not the kind of person who can gain pleasure from something else's pain. If you think it's ok then go ahead but please try and understand our point of view too.

That is the stupidest reasoning for NOT becoming a vegetarian that I have ever heard. Thank god other people in the world don't have that view.

Thanks for being so open minded and your postitive attitude. Meat is a carcinogen, cruel & extremely unhealthy.

I think that people a vegetarians or vegans for a variety of reasons. Personally, I was a vegetarian (lacto-ovo) for 5 + years. I didn't give up meat because I thought it was inhumane to the animals I gave up meat because I never really liked it and researched a lot about the health benifits to a vegetarian diet. Since then, I have a modified vegetarian diet and currently eat a vegetarian style diet with the addition of fish and seafood because I feel there are health benefits to be gained by eating fish that you cannt get from a strictly vegetarian diet. Not to mention, I really do like fish and missed having it in my diet.

So, I think to group an entire population of vegetarians into animal rights activists is as extreeme as saying all teenagers are lazy or cooking and cleaning is "women's work." Luckily every person has their own ability to make a choice on this issue and the reasons they make these choices are not only personal, but individual!

oh my god... that is so affensive 2 sum peepz. i am a vegetarian and i no it doesnt help the animals much cos loads of ova peeps eat it, but to me it is cruel to eat meat. what if sum1 shot u and ate u. (or even worse slaughtered u) also i am againt wearin fur as that is the same thing but werain there fur, instead of eating them. (Which is repulsive) TO ALL THE VEGGIES AND VEGAN OUT THERE, YOU ROCK!!!

There was a sixteen-year-old girl living with her little sister in Poland in 1942. They had no parents there to take care of them.

A Jew she knew knocked on her door asking for shelter for the night, as the Nazis were searching for him. (He'd jumped off the train while being taken to a concentration camp).

She took him in and kept taking in more people till she had 13. THen the Germans liquidated the ghetto and killed all the other JEws in the city.. so there were no more for her to hide.

If she would have been caught she would have been killed on sight. She hid 13 Jews through the entire war and saved their lives.

BUT Hitler still managed to kill 6 million Jews!

sheesh was SHE ever dumb for trying to make a difference, eh?? Bet none of the Jews she hid would say she'd made a difference either, huh? Especially the first one she hid.. who later married her.

Well there's these things called self-respect and character and conviction...

Yea but WE don't feel GUILTY like some PEOPLE *cough*you*cough* WE ARE MAkING A DIFFERENCE! IF THEY DON'T HAVE ENOUGH MONEY THEN THEY CAN EITHER AFFORD TO BUY ANIMALS TO KILL OR PAY EMPLOYEES FOR DOING NOTHING! THEY CAN'T PAY FOR BOTH IF THEY DON'T HAVE THE MONEY! AND A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE VEGITARIAN AND VEGAN SO WE DO SAVE THE ANIMALS! YOU ARE JUST AN ARROGANT PERSON THAT DOESN'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!

Hey everyone, let's all create more suffering because this idiot doesn't agree with what we are doing.

Ok, agreed. Thank you for the valuable insight.

Vegetarianism is not completly pointless. Each Vegan saves 95 animals per year. And aside fromt that there are huge Environmental benefits to Veganism; meat production is a leading cause of water pollution, dead zones is the ocean, greenhouse gas emissions, and a whole lot more. It would most likely take at least 30 pages for me to even begin to discuss the multiple environmental benefits of Veganism, but just look here for an overview

Yes, we Vegans know that animals will still be killed for those who choose to eat meat, but we choose to not be part of that suffering. Why should that bother you or anyone else?

I am incredibly suprised at the lack of intelligence amoung so many of the people who post here. Number ONE of which is this character ASHLEY who continuously states that vegetariansism is immoral. I would REALLY love to hear an explanation for that one.

I am also terribly disturbed by the fact that there are people out there who choose to bash those whose beliefs are different than theirs. I can only assume that they are also racist and bash people of other religions, races, and ideologies than their own.

this is why i became vegetarian, quoted from a book;

' “Humane” Protocol calls for animals to be “stunned” before they are slaughtered. For cows, this means getting a metal bolt shot into the skull and then retracted. When done properly, using working equipment, this renders the cow unconscious. But time is money, and slaughterhouses operate at lightning speeds, some killing one animal every 3 seconds. Because thousands of frightened, struggling cows are not easy to stun, it is extremely common for a “stunner” to miss his mark. Panicked Hogs, also difficult to “hit”, are stunned with an electric device. And if the jolt is too high, it bruises and bloodies the hogs’ flesh (bad for business). Because business comes first on factory farms, the jolt is lowered, despite the fact that it doesn’t properly stun the hogs.
Stunned or not, cows and hogs are then “strung up” from the ceiling by a chain attached to their leg(s). In theory, while they dangle they are supposed to be unconscious. But often they are fully conscious, struggling, screaming and fearfully staring at the workers while they have their throats stabbed open. Next, they travel along a “bleed rail”, where they should bleed to death. But again, those large, frightened, struggling, conscious animals are difficult targets and the “stickers” (workers who cut their throats) don’t always get a “good cut”. Before cows can bleed to death, they are sent on their way to the “head skinners”, where the skin is sliced from their heads while they are still conscious. Of course, this is excruciatingly painful, and the cows kick and struggle frantically. To avoid getting injured by the struggling animal, workers will sometimes sever the spinal cord with a knife blow to the back of the head. This paralyzes the animal below the neck so that the worker is safe. But these cows can still feel their skin being ripped off their faces. Next, their legs and head are chopped off, their entrails removed from their bodies, and then, finally, they are split in half. Often before the hogs can bleed to death, they are dunked fully conscious into 140 degree scalding water to remove the hair from their bodies.
Chickens, because they are so overcrowded and stressed, frequently peck at each other and factory workers, so the ends of their beaks are literally chopped off their faces. Congress exempted chickens and turkeys from the Humane Slaughter Act, so there is no requirement to stun them. But because it is easier to handle chickens that aren’t fighting for their lives, their heads are sometimes dragged through a water bath that has been electrically charged. This paralyzes the birds, but does not render them unconscious. They are snatched up, shackled upside down, and their throats are slashed by a machine at rates of thousands per hour. Next they are dunked in scalding water to loosen their feathers. Again, they are supposed to be dead at this point, but if the machine misses its mark, or the chickens haven’t bled to death, they are “boiled” alive. Then they are laced into a series of machines that literally beat their feathers off of them, still alive and having just been scalded. All the while they are being handled like rubber toys: grabbed by their necks, feet or wings and thrown around. '

there was ALOT more after this, including quotes from factory workers.

"why becum a vegan or vegetarian( besides health or weight that is..."

"so if u think ur doing something "good", your not, well maybe for your health..."

Do you even pay attention to the words that you are typing? Ok, forget the actual words....do you pay attention to the thoughts behind the words? Re-read the above lines one more time.

Why do any good in this world after all there will always be plenty of people to do bad it's not going to change anything. There will still be plenty of people abused, and killed even if you yourself don't abuse or kill.

One person can make a difference, many can make more of a difference. I cannot eat something that has been attained by ways that I find immoral and feel OK about it just because others eat it. Just as I cannot treat others like crap just because there are some that do.

Other peoples action or inaction do not dictate my own.

well actually vegetarians alone are estimated to save around 100 animals per year per person ( that is to put 100 animal less stress on the meat industry per year). vegan do even more. so if america... a country of around 300 million maybe has only 1,000,000 vegetarians, that is lessening the demand for meat by 100,000,000 animals per year. so if you can still say that doesnt make a difference then ur dumb. so its not completely pointless. thats like saying there is no point in trying to catch murders or rapists anymore because there will just be more to take their place and theres no way to catch them all. what a stupid way to think. i feel sorry for u. whats the point in even being alive if you think that nothing you do will make a difference

You are right. But the vegetarians persist in their immoral ways because they are so uninformed that they think animals actually feel pain!! Sheesh, people take a biology lesson!!

we really need to do something to outlaw veganism and vegetarinsm
