Question: Someone told me these oils were bad because they were saturated. I also heard Canola oil was the best. Any input on this subject would be appreciated thx!

For frying or cooking in a hot oven, Canola oil is the best to use ... it has minimal saturated fats and no transfats, and can be heated to the proper temperature for even deep frying. If you are making a salad dressing, though, you should use Extra Virgin Olive Oil ... again, there's no saturated fats and no transfats, and it's even better than Canola oil in recipes that are not heated at all or are only 'warmed' after the oil is added. Olive oil burns at a lower temperature than Canola oil, so use Canola when 'cooking' and Extra Virgin Olive Oil when 'fixing' some food ...

actually they are very bad for you. olive and caola are alot healthier for your <3

Actually, coconut oil is the only natural oil to have natural saturated fat which is infact, deadly to your health.

canola oil is actually rape seed oil. rape seed isn't good for you. they did tests where they gave rats canola oil and they got all these defects. . then when they took the oil away, the defects slowly went away as well. . . i just stick to olive or vegetable oil and they work just fine =)

(i said defects, not cancer, but you can read the website i'm siting for more info on how bad it is)

virgin olive oil is tops for sure...for eating and cleansing the face....its pure and brings balance to the diet and the face...

coconut and palm...run dont walk away from them...lol

Palm and coconut oils are the worst of the lot. Stick to olive, peanut, and grapeseed oils. The former are high in saturated fats.

yeah they are snasty.

very deceptive, usually natural oils that are liquid at room temperature are not saturated... those two are though.

theres plenty of other types of oil out there that are much better. cold pressed is better.

i usually just cycle, having different ones, like grape seed, almond, apricot kernal, macadamia... most veggie/nut/seed ones are good.

most of the time i will always keep oilve oil, and i use it the most, especially on salads.

like already mentioned i think its a good for the skin, if my hair gets to dry its quite good for that. find its also good for bruising or sore joints too.

it has quite a high level of vitamin E too, so it can be used over time to try to reduce scars.

I'm a fan of coconut oil. I love it.

any excessive oil intake will be bad for health.....conclusion=make less oil in every food you take

Palm kernel oil is still considered a "bad" oil. However, coconut oil is in medical trials now as a management tool in the control of diabetes. You can find references in medical journals and on the web. The medical trials have not determined the exact mechanism yet, but it appears that the oil assists the pancreas in the manufacture of Insulin. Also, to date, there has been no negative impact on cholesterol and triglyceride levels from the use of coconut oil. Plus there have been some cases of positive impact on triglyceride levels. Although coconut oil is a saturated fat, current research indicates it is definitely not as "bad" as once thought and may prove to be one of the more "healthful" fats.

One answerer stated that rape seed oil (marketed as Canola in the USA) causes cancer in rats. I've never seen any clinical trials to that effect. Rape seed oil is a poly-unsaturated fat like vegetable, corn, sunflower and safflower oil. Current research says that mono-saturated fats such as olive and peanut oil is a better choice than a poly-unsaturated fat. And that both are better than saturated fats. Poly-unsaturated fats, when refrigerated, remain clear and free flowing. Mono-saturated fats, when refrigerated, become cloudy and more viscous. Saturated fats are solid at room temperature.

They are the worst Stick with Olive oil , Evoo, Safflower.Expeller Pressed

Saturated oils are the worst of the lot.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil is the best but it's not good at high temperatures so use Canola Oil for high temps.
