Question: I'm 21, and i eat mostly veggies, chicken or fish. i ate rarely beef and i don't eat any pork or other red meat.

I don't really understand the question/issue

Of course you can be a vegetarian.

cut out meat, fish, poultry and slaughter by-products and you are a vegetarian.

You can be a vegetarian now, immediately. You just need to make the decision.

Paul R is wrong. There is no need to put much thought into a vegetarian diet. Just eat a range of fruits, vegetables, nuts, cereals and dairy and you'll be fine without any supplements or fortified foods....

....using the phrase "There are some people who claim..." is slighted loaded in the negative.

Of course its entirely possible. Proven by many vegetarians who live full and active lives without meat.

And the protien concern is complete myth.

It woudl be best to read facts rather than listen to people who have probably never been vegetarians.

I've been veggie for 28 years, i'm pretty sure i'm doing fine thank you very much.

Of course you can. Meat eaters often struggle most to give up red meat, so you're halfway there already. You can replace chicken with tofu in many dishes. Just make sure to get enough protein from eggs, lentils, chickpeas and soya products. Eat lots of dark green veggies, or take an iron supplement. Get a good vegetarian cookbook to learn how to plan balanced, meat-free meals.

One of the important things to work out is exactly why you want to go veg. Going veg is very easy when it comes to cooking for yourself, but when others cook for you, it becomes more difficult. Often they have no idea what to cook for you (or they might have done the cooking before they found out), and it can make things difficult for your host. If you know why you're vegetarian, you will know what to do: if it's a moral issue, then you shouldn't eat meat even at friends' houses. If it's a health or taste issue, it's up to you. Mine is more health and taste, and I think it's even worse to kill an animal and NOT eat it, so I eat whatever my friends serve.

Ok, a natural vegetarian. Great.

i am also a non vegetarian and i know its very hard to leave non veg and become a pure vegetarian.but if u want to be one you can,it needs alot of determination.

There are some people who claim it is entirely possible to get all of one's dietary requirements without eating meat.

I believe the entire survival complex of amino acids is theoretically obtainable by consuming beans and rice, which form a complete complex carbohydrate. Offhand, I don't know which beans or whether you need a certain type of rice, but I'll offer that.

You could also add protein powder to your diet to be sure you don't lose any important nutrients. And perhaps some vitamins and minerals, possibly in pill, capsule or chelated liquid suspension depending on what you need and your budget.

sure. I'm like that. i don't eat red meats such as beef or pork. but i do eat chicken. And lots of fruits and veggies. i get told a lot that im not a vegetarian because i do eat chicken.so i came to the conclusion that im just a picky eater. lol

Sure you can! If you stop eating chicken, fish, and beef, and start eating tofu, tempeh, and seitan (and lots of fruits, veggies, and whole grains), there ya go. Wanting to make a change is a big first step on the path to that change.

Good luck!

well, you should eat more meat. beef, fish, and chicken are health for energy and stuff like that. you should eat more meat but veggies are also healthy! (I'm Jewish so I don't eat pork either)
