What are some good proteins for kids who don't eat meat?!


Question: i know a little girl (almost age 3) who will not eat meat by her choice. besides peanut butter what kind of good protein foods do kids like?

yes i agree with steve d backed beans

Chocolate soy milk.

Dairy (yogurt, cheese, etc), beans, tofu (if you can sneak it into foods and she won't notice).

American cheese, string cheese, edamame, milk. There's even a little protein in baked potato.

Eggs and beans are good sources.

all sorts of nuts, almonds, seeds such as pumpkin seeds, pomegranate is a fun fruit to eat and very good for health...

Nuts (but they're high in fat), soy foods, seitan (wheat gluten), beans. Quinoa, a South American grain, is an excellent source of protein, but the flavors might be a bit much for a child.

You could also get her veggie deli slices to snack on. There are a number of resources out there for vegetarian children.

But really, as long as she gets a good variety of foods, she'll probably be okay.

Try other nuts, eggs, beans, and even tofu. Those should make up for the protein lost in not eating meat.

you can't go wrong with TOFU...it's high in protein,and if you cook it properly it tastes really really good....there are lots of soy based products that are good too...

People don't really need as much protein as many think. Your body can only use a certain amount. A good choice is tahini, tempeh, all soy products, lentils, all types of dried beans and eggs in moderation.

Seitan is by far the tastiest form of vegetarian protein on this planet. It is probably the best food if prepared properly and contains very high amounts of protein.

My daughter is 3, and vegan her whole life.
No lack of protein.
Besides, you want amino acids as humans make their own proteins from these. Every living thing uses protein for its building blocks. We only need very little protein. Eating whole proteins is actually inefficient as they would first need to be broken down into amino acids for us to utilize. Fruits are packed full of amino acids. In the end, as long as one eat, one will get lots of protein. It's impossible to avoid otherwise. Same goes for all other nutrients.
