Would you eat animals if you knew that they lived on a free range farm and were treated kindly?!
Answers: I know many of you object to the treatment while they are growing, so if you knew they were revered while alive, would that change your mind?
Food is food no mater what. you have to many people starving in this would to let food go to waste.
But I would say the best food is food you hunt and bush er your self, from Deer to getting pigs and cows from your Farmer eating them. That is how we get are eggs and mike every mooring on my Farmer in PA.
the end result is still the same
I revere meat over hunger.
I generally don't believe what they tell us.
I eat animals regardless of how they were treated. But I grew up on a farm and I think the greenies need to get a grip on reality.
I eat all animals.
i feel alittle better about eating animals that have been treated kindly and that have been killed in a quick and with as little pain as possible.
NO I would not. I have no desire to be the cause of an animal being raised to be killed for food. I do not need to eat animals, nor do I desire to.
I'd be happy that they had a good life before I ate 'em.
of course
yes
i have raised animals free range and eaten them
even though i cared for them whilst alive
oh yeah i'm gonna feel much better eating this murdered chicken knowing it could run around.
it dosen't make a differance to me it's still terrible.
as long as it tastes good that's fine with me.
it's the circle of life, no matter how it's treated. same with people...u don't see people out there giving poverty stricken children loads of food...u see people out there fighting for what we eat. give me a break!
how about giving all the food to the people that can't afford it.
No.
They woould be better of alive, because they are happy where they live.
well, i was vegan for a few years... and mainly it is b/c the food industry has gotten out of hand in terms of the processing and large scale of it all. so, i would answer yes. b/c ultimately i went back to meat, but slowly and i try to make sure i knwo the origin. but it is difficult. some peopel are veggie due to political beliefs others for health, some for both. all depends. but yes, we need greater awareness fo where our food comes from. now with water droughts, people are getting hip to where their water comes from...
Humans are omnivores so we eat plants AND meat. I agree with the farm girl above.
Yes, I would eat it and I would be even less concerned. Bet it would taste even better too!
No, i'm a vegetarian.
The definition is no meat, fish, poultry nor slaughter by-products.
There is no qualifier about the way the animal is treated.
Killing an animal is the ultimate cruelty as far as its concerned. When you are about to put a bolt through its head, it doesn't really care that you looked after it on green pastures for the past year.
"SomeRandomGirl..Duh" is completly avoiding thier responsibility. They are DIRECTLY responsible for the death of animals if they buy meat. One of my regular comments on here is that many meat-eaters will not take responsibility for what they pay for - this is a prime example.
EDIT: to your additional comment of "the animals are well taken care of "...since when can killing an animal ever be described as taking care of it ?? You cannot just avoid the final act because it suits you. Killing an animal is not taking care of it, its the ultimate act of cruelty. Its simple.
As as to the chicken comment.... So are you saying its ok to kill things if they don't know about it ? Really ? wow, so any sort of death is Ok if the victim doesn't know about it. How does that make it right. All you are doing is reducing your guilt by trying to avoid facing the animals panic. Killing cones are not used in anything other than hobby farms, you are having a laugh with that suggestion.
Following your logic are we to assume that you eat pet cats and dogs ? Surely they are revered while alive.
I see farming every day, do you ??
No, look at it this way, this is how I believe...
All mammals experience fear, its a basic survival instinct. Fear causes the release of all kinds of chemicals including cortisol which is a stress hormone, and others are release too. These chemicals get pumped throughout the body.
Animals experience fear when they are killed and these chemicals end up in the meat. Why would I want to put this bad stuff into my own body??
Thats why I don't eat meat, and its just my opinion on the matter, right or wrong.
I don't like eating animals if I have a choice if they live or die. (Which I usually don't..)
But if they are at the store, they are already dead, and I have no say in the matter, so I figure might as well. =/
But if I did know they were treated as a pet, I wouldn't eat it. It would just kill my conscience.
I would prefer that any animal which is meant for a foreign
market be dead rather than cruelly transported in lorries ,
not fed or watered, and slaughtered in the most horrific way on
arrival.
It would make the ethics of eating the meat more "palatable" so to speak. However, there are many reasons that people decide not to eat meat, and one of mine is that it simply doesn't taste good to me, and it does not make me feel well after I eat it. So, in answer to your question, probably not. Food should be enjoyable, and we all have different taste preferences. :)
i feel gulty when eating meat when /I think about it.
When you think about it , it is discusting.
I dont know im vegan so i dont eat animals. Its so sad to see that the animal does'nt know that it is about to be slautered and procesed
Never, as it is I'm a vegetarian.
"There are far more farms where the animals are well taken care of than mistreated....."
Where did you get that idea? According to the Worldwatch Institute, 74 percent of the world's poultry, 43 percent of beef, and 68 percent of eggs are produced on factory farms.
Even if an animal were to be raised humanely with access to wide open fields I still wouldn't eat them because I don't see animals as food. I don't see a living being and think how I can make a use out of it. Eating meat is just gaining pleasure from something else's pain and I'd prefere not to put death into my body.
If you think these killing cones are so humane then I'm sure you wouldn't mind if someone were to do the same to you right? And even if these cones exist, that doesn't mean they're used by the majority.
If they were under the jowls of a hungry animal then this would suggest they've led their lives naturally in the wild for these predators to catch them so yes, generally I would think their lives as a whole would be happier this way. Factory farming isn't just about the way they are eventually killed... it's the whole process... the only purpose in their lives is to be kept at the lowest cost possible so that farmers can make the most money possible. I know what you're saying... not ALL animals for meat are raised on factory farms but the majority in the western world anyway, are. And even if they were kept humanely they are still being used by humans. If a mother brings up a child in a mansion, loves it and gives it everything it needs then sure that's humane. But your opinion would probably change if one day, in spite of this, she slits the child's throat and eats then eats the child's body. I'm not saying this example is exactly the same but maybe you can understand our reasoning a bit more.
I have yet to have an animal come up to me and let me know that they were unhappy with their lives. The day an animal comes up to me and says "Hey, Dj, can I talk to you for a minute about how Im being treated" is the day I go get serious mental help. Im talking about the help that comes with a straight jacket and a padded room. Untill then, Ill treat my dog as a member of the family and the cow as dinner on the hoof.
No. It's not complicated. If I can avoid killing, I will. Not eating meat is such an easy thing to do, why would I continue to be responsible for the death of about 100 sentient beings per year? I don't care how "kindly" they were treated, it is not natural to keep these animals in fences out of their natural situation, only to put a bolt through their head and eat them.
Yes, but I eat animals regardless. MMMMM tasty meat.
Heck yeah, I would, they are very tasty.
Certainly. I eat them anyways.
