Alternative to pine nuts?!

Question: I'm allergic to pine nuts and I have a recipe or two that calls for them. What could I use as a substitute? Especially in soups.

Probably blanched almonds would work, they are pretty neutral in taste, would add protein. In salads, try walnuts. They pair up very nicely with a green salad with apples, dried cherries and parmesan. Possibly pumpkin seeds (raw, unsalted, insides only) would work too. Or just skip the nuts.

I am not particularly fond of pine nuts, but like almost all other nuts and seeds. I just use different ones. In soup, I have never seen a recipe that calls for nuts, so I can't say specifically. But for things like pesto, you could either skip the nuts, or maybe used blanched almonds.

Substitutes: walnuts (this is a common variation in pesto) OR almonds (this is a common variation in pesto) OR hazelnuts (this also works in pesto) OR cashews (raw, unsalted) OR peanuts (unsalted) OR sunflower seeds

i totally love peanuts in the shell that are salted. its so fun to break open the shell instead of just buying the jar of planters wherr the peanuts are out of the shell. i buy them in the shell in the bag from the produce section. yummy!!! :)

Definitely cashew nuts. I find they have a very similar flavor. Make sure they are raw cashews.

Pine cones.
