Do you consider pretzels junk food?!
so i'm going a month without any type of junk food at all to break my craving. do you consider pretzels junk food? if so, what other type of snacky type things do you consider junk food? what about wheat thins?

(I'm asking this in the V&V because I think I'll get better responses..not that meat eaters can't be knowledgable about health but, you know what i mean, right?)

yeah kinda. they are high in carbs so if you eat to many of them they arent good for you. and they have a lot of salt on them which is also not good for you. But they are better than alot of other things you could eat :)))
pretzels arent bad for you just high in sodium... i always pick off all the salt on the outside of them... makes me eat them slower too
yes
i dont think so...but salt isnt very good for you
I do because they have salt which can or can't be healthy.
I would consider it a snack.
When they show those pictures of junk food floating around, sometimes I see a piece of pizza or a hotdog. Whaaaat?!?!
So, it depends.
I would say licorice or any gummy candy is junk food. Chocolate has it's purposes, and is sometimes pricey and gourmet, so it's not really junk, but cheaply made gummy or hard candy with a lot of chemicals...... Now THAT'S junk food.
yes. well...they're not nearly as bad as some other junk foods...but yah. They're really salty. But I guess it all dpends on the brand you get.
Yes, they're all bread and salt. Try cashews.
No...i dont consider it junk food,...its a low cal...fat free food....as long as you get the kind not loaded with salt....or covered in chocolate or....
....
I think that it depends on the pretzel.
unsalted pretzels, not really.
yes. It is still snacks.
I consider pretzels and wheat thins junk food
Just slightly better for you
Edit : bagels are like 4 pieces of bread and then you add cream cheese
Junk food usually have high amounts of sugar and carbs with loads of preservatives.
I think soft pretezels is considered non junk. Best way to tell if they're junk is to read the nutritional facts.
Wheat thins are good if they are the low fat kind. =)
no pretzels arent junk food! they are usually baked, not fried like potato chips,so they are practically fat free! ( just read the label, hun) i always eat them when on diets! eat away
you can buy low-fat or fat free wheat thins, it doesnt affect the taste at all
popcorn is a horrible snack food to have, unless its butter-free
if you want to healthy snack, and still have energy try this "good for you snack"
1C peanuts
1C raisins
1C M&Ms
1C mini-pretzels
combine in ziplock baggie and munch on for an energy boost
for a sweeter snack:
spread whipped cream ( cool whip) between cinnamon grahm crackers and let freeze overnight...yummy!
Well pretzels are pretty salty so you should try low sodium. Wheat Thins are totally heathy and if you have any more questions just ask!!
Yea there good for you if you don't eat a lot of them! oh yea i love eating cheese nips they are really good!
i consider them bagels with big chunks of salt on them, and tied into knots.
If people can walk around gnawing on stupid bagels every day, then why not pretzels.?
I don't like bagels because they've taken over all the cofee shops and are considered edible food by too many people. They are not tastey, they are not edible, they do not taste good, they are not healthy, and they are a menace to cuisine.
So maybe pretzels ARE junk food, now that i think about it.
No they are really healthy because you can put salt or not salt, butter, cinnamon and sugar.

Yes
I've never considered them junk
They are borderline, I think. Ordinary pretzels contain the same, small amount of minerals as most bread/wheat products such as crackers. My definition of "junk food" is food that contains little to nothing useful to your body other than calories. I would say, since this is only going to be one month, you should be pretty strict. That way, you will see a bigger difference in your body and mood. For this experiment, I would eat only foods that are high in something useful (vitamins, minerals, fiber, protein, "good fats," etc.) and low in sugar, fairly low in salt, and free of trans fats/hydrogenated oils.
The answer to your question,(do you consider pretzels junk food?) is no I do not( certain ones though) I personally snack on SNYDER'S of Hanover, the pounder 16oz. value, All natural...0g trans fat ,sourdough nibblers (16oz.) Look for 0 saturated fat,and try to avoid sugar...It's not easy but you can do it because you are already health oriented.....
no not really bad for you all though mostly the salt is high in sodium but that is mainly it......
im pretty sure they sell salt less pretzels if you would like that
Well, to me, all processed foods or any other foods in a box is junk. It has been processed and likely refined. Try snacking on nuts and seeds (not too much though because they are a bit fatty) and fruits. Or, if you snack too much, try to find a sport to do. They take your mind off snacking in general.
Yes, they are "junk" food because they are high in carbohydrates and sodium, and low in fiber, vitamins and minerals. Same with wheat thins. They are not nearly as bad as chips or candy, but still hardly a necessary part of anyone's diet.
You might be able to find some healthier versions made with whole grains or reduced sodium.
One food that might typically be thought of as junk food but really isn't (or doesn't have to be) is popcorn. This is a whole grain snack. You will want to avoid those high-fat, -salt (and sometimes -sugar) microwavable supermarket brands, however, and artificial butter might be lethal in large doses. There are a few brands of healthy microwavable bags, or the cheapest and healthiest way is to buy the kernels and pop it in a hot air popper or a microwave popper. The salt doesn't stick very well to air-popped corn, unfortunately.
I would consider them junk. They're basically a big pile of white flour and salt - no fibre, no vitamins, no minerals to speak of. It's basically a pile of sugar with no nutritional benefits.
At least, when there's some fat in a snack, it usually makes me full after a few. With low-fat, high sugar snacks like pretzels, I just feel like **** when I eat them.
they aren't as bad as other chips of coarse but high in salt...but very low cal and fat free is plain air popped pop corn (un-buttered) it's really good and healthy. a cup of it is only 50cals! =]
I consider that it's a junk food.
They're not as bad as some junk foods, but they're pretty nutritionally void.
hmmmm never really thought about that. not really though
