If vegans consider meat murder, then why indulge in "fake" designer "meats"???!

Question: Is this not hypocritical? I mean, I find rape immoral and I certainly would not want to even *fake* such immorality at any cost. So, any simulation of such an act would be hypocritical to my own moral code. I find human trafficking immoral, and I do not support it in any way...so I wouldn't seek to emulate such a practice. You see where I am going. So, okay. If you vegan persons feel meat is immoral, unethical and XYZ to the third power times infinity, why create a fake version of it? I just want to know. Everytime I see a box of boca burgers and not dogs I just want to grab the nearest humanoid herbivore and ask them why these abominations exist. Well...WHY do they?

This is a good question, and it is relevant to some hard-core vegetarians.

If questioning if it is right to make a copy of something immoral seems like a waste of time to you think about all the fuss people stir up over video games such as grand theft auto because they imitate violent crimes.

Some people say that imitation is fine as long as it doesn't hurt anyone and others say it's still immoral. It just depends whether you can make that distinction in your mind.

If you're still eating meat:

a) this has no effect on you
b) this is a pathetic way for you to justify your still eating meat, by casting others as hypocrites
c) it is in no way an apt comparison, because animals don't suffer and die to make our food, as you well understand.

So get over yourself, read "Diet for a New America", and stop trolling.

Um... because fake meat isn't actually meat?
I don't think anything is losing its life if vegans want their tofu in patty shapes instead of brick shapes.

Adds protein, still like the taste of meat, don't want the cruelty.

Have a very nice day! :D

have you tried finding a hobby?

Conspiracy Theory:

They are products created by the evil meat producing companies to slowly convert the vegetarians back to meat eaters.

I just can't figure out why they don't taste at all like meat.

because theres no harm in eating a soy burger flavored with herbs and spices that taste good.

eating a veggie pattie vs. rape and human trafficking, wow.

Have you reviewed the community rules lately? This is considered a 'rant' and rants are illegal. You can lose your Yahoo privileges for breaking the rules.

The reason they aren't eating meat is because you have to kill the animals to do so. How many animals do you kill by eating fake meat, it's the principle, not the practice.

I think your comparing apples and oranges hun....

Fake meats not only add to taste without harming animals but add additional nutrients which is always welcomed :)

You have to be kidding, right?

Do "fake meats" require that animals must be raised or killed? No.

Do other people's eating habits affect you? No.

Is everyone that watches horror movies a hypocrite because they don't want those things to really happen to someone? No

Please THINK before you post a question.

"Sauteed cardboard in a mint cream and aspargus sauce with tofu nuggets. Ummmmm. Tasty."
WOW, you're even stupider than I thought.

Vegans/vegetarians are not against meat. they're against the unfair practices in which the meat industry is responsible for. so eating a soy product that has some flavor to it is a safe way to NOT support these practices and a good way to get extra protein.

I grew up eating sandwiches and meat at every dinner so when I switched to be a vegetarian these fake meats helped me to make the transition easier. And I've kept eating them because I personally like the taste of some of these "fake" meats. That is why I eat them! If that's not enough of a reason for you then I don't know what else to tell you. You have a lot of anger dear... R E L A X !!

And by the way, have you ever stopped to think that some people that choose not to eat meat do it because of the cruelty to the animals, not because they stopped liking the taste of meat?! That isn't my case but it is for some.

Cause they still want to have a Bar-B- que and veggie burgers on a bar-b -Que actually tastes good....and a vegan child at a outing wants to fit in and not be teased so he /she has a veggie dog.....it is just another form to have a wider variety in the food they eat...and why would you care what form the food is that you don't eat?? Not a vegan or vegetarian...but tried the veggie burgers and stuff....Don't see how it can be hypocritical, since no animals were harmed in the making of such foods. You really should worry less about others, you are going to get ulcers...

just to fill their inner hunger to eat meat.

"Stupider" is a word, you moron.

It means "more stupid than".

Learn how to use a dictionary.

You're REALLY not as smart as you think you are.

seriously? wow. I suppose you hide in your basement on Halloween and avoid horror movies at all costs?

That's a funny question. I never thought of it that way. I don't know why I would eat simulated meat if I didn't agree with eating the real thing. I'm going to ask my vegetarian friends that question.

it makes it waay easier to transition, if you will, to vegetarianism. i dont really eat it. i also think it is easier to live in a world ruled by meat eaters if you just make things similar to those of carnivores.
and we dont go attacking you, if you find it hipocritical, be a vegetarian and dont eat it. iotherwise it doesnt affect you.

Let me give you a little history on me...

I became a vegetarian in March '07 and then a vegan in June for the ethical, health, and environmental benefits. However, truth be told, I loved animal products. Chicken and cheese were my big downfalls... My husband had suggested we look into a vegetarian diet a couple of years ago, and I laughed at the idea, simply because I knew it would be impossible for me to go without.

Then I started reading, and I saw videos of animals' death, and I did more research. I could not escape the truth that I had been exposed to. There was no way I could continue to eat an animal when I loved animals. There was no way I could continue to support an industry that killed animals and promoted very unhealthy products while deceiving its consumer. Simply no way.

I enjoy eating faux meats because it allows me to enjoy some of my once-favorite meals without sacrificing my health nor my values. I can visit Native Foods in Costa Mesa and order a "Chicken Run Ranch Burger" and eat in peace. I can order soy chicken curry and have all the same tasty benefits of real chicken without the death behind the meal. As long as the fake meat itself does not contain any actual animal parts or any by-products, then it is right by me.

Hope my answer shed some light. :)

The eating of faux meat is much different that eating a actual burger. No animal has to die in order for a boca burger to be produced. I am against the cruelty behind the production of the burger and the health concerns regarding the consumption of meat.

Since faux meat is healther( in cholesterol, saturated fat, etc) and there is no cruelty involved, than the consumption of the product is no different that eating any other vegetarian food.

"I find rape immoral and I certainly would not want to even *fake* such immorality at any cost." - Most people find rape immoral and against their ethical beliefs. Not too sound rude or anything, but just because people find rape a terrible act, we don't abstain from intercourse.

I myself, liken it to a person who is watching cholesterol who switches from regular bacon to turkey bacon. Should the person avoid turkey bacon because regular bacon is high in cholesterol... no, because what they are looking for is something healthier, just the same as vegetarians are looking for a cruelty free and healthier alternative so they choose boca burgers.

We hate the practice of eating meat..that doesnt mean that we dont like the food style...

Besides fake meat isnt meat..
its not immoral..it's smart..we're NOT promoting meat..we just want to make a BETTER version of it, so meat eaters would eat the fake one insted of the real thing..which is very mean..and immoral.

oo yea i HAD to risk a few points to edit this..
but u ARE STUPIDER than u think u are!

You think that faux meat is useless and wierd..
WUT about U!!?!
Who's the hypocrite here!!?!!?!
VERY sorry for offending..
Have a Great Day!!!

IVE SEEN THE LIGHT.

KFC, here I come!!!

Yes, meat is immoral, which is why vegans don't eat it. However, there is nothing immoral about vegetable products made to have the taste and texture of meat. No animal had to die for my faux chickin "breast" or my veggie burger. If it makes it easier for someone to become and stay vegetarian, what's wrong with that?

I'm sure you know people like certain flavors and textures in their foods. Analogues mimic those foods without the cruelty, the saturated fat, and the cholesterol. Furthermore, it's not the veggie burgers but the products they mimic that are abominations.

MOst of the "fake" meats are actually veggie burgers, and are marketed as such. There are a few that are marketed as "meatless meat" but most are presented as vegetable patties.

Your logic is sort of like saying that pacifists shouldn't use squirt guns.

Because I had eaten meat most of my life. I just became a vegetarian a month ago, and still sometimes miss meat. If I eat a bean burger (which, by the way, doesn't even taste like meat, but it is so delicious.) I don't even think about meat. I don't think it's hypocritical, our culture is not the only one that uses meat substitutes, either.

I don't have anything against meat, I love it. But I've gone vegetarian because it is a way healthier diet than a meat diet.

Human beings are carnivores plain and simple. Even in biblical times they slew pigs and other animals for food. In society, we can't judge vegetarians because of what they believe in. These things exist because people are allowed to eat whatever they like, it's their right. The true vegetarian who believes that eating meat means murdering an animal will not wear any kind of leather as well. A vegetarian who won't eat meat because of heatlh reasons is another story.
