Why are vegetarians so prejudice when you eat meat?!

Question: Whenever I eat meat around vegans or vegetarians, they always give me a bad look as if I'm doing something wrong.
I know they don't believe in eating meat or that crap, but their kind of irritated.
I should look at THEM when they don't eat meat and see themselves turn anorexic.
I'm sorry but theres just no point in being a vegetarian or vegan.
Its not healthy.

I think it's bad manners frankly. Whether someone eats meat or not is either a personal or religious choice.

I have made the choice not to eat meat but I would not think to impose that action on others except in time of famine (since to produce a good meat producing cow or pig uses nearly as much as ten people could eat in the way of calories).

Vegetarianism and vegan eating both require a higher degree of attention with respect to what we eat, however it can be said that once this is done, things are reasonably healthy.

That not withstanding as far as healthiness is concerned, While in theory chicken and fish are reasonably healthy other meats are not necessarily as healthy.

Additionally, the production of meat is NOT healthy or even sanitary.

For my money, this drove it home.

I don't look at people funny. I am trying to be vegetarian/vegan for health purposes. Trust me, I'd love to eat meat... so if I was staring at you during a meal, it would be because I am envious of you. :-)

Well, I'd imagine you'd have a hard time watching a cannibal eat a dead baby.

I'm sorry you're ignorant about the vegetarian lifestyle. I eat burritos, pasta, and pizza all the time, it just doesn't contain pus, blood, sh*t, and steroids.

There are several points in being vegetarian and vegan.
1. The animals are treated horrifically.
2. Eating meat and dairy is unhealthy.
3. eating pus, blood, sh*t, and steroids is gross.

As for your assertion that being veg is "not healthy", I can only laugh and laugh and laugh. How is it that the country that eats the most meat and dairy is also the FATTEST?? The two oldest people living right now are both vegetarian, so what does that tell you?

You have no idea what you're talking about, sorry.

I'm a vegetarian. I don't give people dirty or funny looks. I'm also very healthy: I never get sick, and I'm not anorexic.

i am a vegetarian and i am perfectly fine with other people eating meat. actually if i am out with friends i will tell them things that i used to eat before i became a vegetarian on the menu that i thought they would like.

I've been vegetarian for almost six years, vegan for most of that time, and nobody would mistake me for having an eating disorder. Most of the veg*ans I know look pretty healthy to me. And veg*anism is perfectly healthy. It's eating meat that is unhealthy.

However, unless you're shoving your meat eating in someone's face, there's no reason for someone to look irritated.

I don't look at meat eaters as if they're doing something wrong! I keep my thoughts to myself. And just to point out, being a vegetarian or vegan doesn't make you an anorexic. And it can be quite healthy, research has proven that becoming a vegetarian or vegan lowers your cholesterol if you follow a healthy diet with meat replacements.

There is some sense in the concept of a small mind..
and the overwhelming self importance of a bigot.
You only give them credence by acknowledging them..

I don't get on peoples cases when they eat meat around me. Maybe it's your skinking attitude that makes them look at you badly. You may think that vegs look anorexic but that's probably because you're used to seeing people with a fatter figure. Being slim is healthy... it means you have less fat surrounding your organs which could eventually lead to diseases like heart disease.

If a vegetarian diet wasn't healthy why do we on average live longer than meat eaters and why do health and life insurance companies offer us discounts? Go and do your research before blindly following your 'common sense' and condemning a diet of which you have no knowledge about.

They stare at you because it irritates the hell out of them that they can't control what you do. (yet.) Ignore 'em. Better yet, order your steak extra rare and make sure they see the dripping blood. Pay no attention to the digital hippies that are sure to berate you for this question. Lack of meat protein affects the brain.

Do a little research on the internet. Don't go to sites like PETA, I think you would have a hard time believing the animal cruelty going on in the meat industry. Vegetarians aren't anorexic, by definition anorexia is the unwillingness to eat. Most vegetarians I know eat more than meat eaters do. How is it not healthy? Lower cholesterol, we get all the (good, not trans) fats and protein from nuts and seeds, there are soy meat substitues and tofu for protein, also. Ever since I became vegetarian (not that long ago, about a month) I've had a great increase in energy, I don't get angry like I used to, no more headaches, I sleep better at night, and dont get tired in the middle of the day.

Just do some research before being so closed minded. I listed a couple links

Wait...I'm sorry...did you just post "God ate meat"...?

Vegetarianism is unhealthy when the person doesn't know what nutrients they need to eat. Yes, I have seen unhealthy Vegs, but all they would eat was potatoes and such, never any nuts.

Not every animal is slaughtered in an inhumane way, but how can you really tell which ones don't, unless you buy your meat from a local farmer who you can inspect yourself?

Now, if you kill your own meat, good for you. That's great.

i think this issue is just about respect.

and also, are you sure they are really prejudiced? if they are, we can't blame them. being a vegetarian is a rather radical change of lifestyle. after all, they are a minority group. that is why they are very aggressive with spreading their cause. so i guess we non-vegetarians should just understand them.

you may never know, perhaps one day you become a vegetarian yourself and you might understand the feeling of being vegetable-eaters in the middle of a whole universe devouring meat.

not all vegetarian/vegans are angry when people around them eat meat- though some are- and though going veg/vegan can make someone lose a little( or alot) of weight, they can also gain weight from all the pasta they can eat... alot of people go veg/vegan for health reasons, or because they find eating an animal disgusting( the reason i went veg)... and on the 'not healthy' part of the question, it can either be healthy or not, depending on the persons diet and if they can- or do- get all the nutrients they need

If somebody did something that is bothersome to you, why don't you confront them directly?

You are talking about "prejudice" and then you turn around and display your own prejudice--other people's beliefs are "crap", "no point", and vegetarianism is "unhealthy" and "anorexic." My wife has a Masters Degree in nutrition, I'm guessing you probably don't. You are talking like all vegetarians think and act alike; which is also very prejudicial. I don't care what you say is in the Bible; prejudiced people have been using religion as an excuse to justify their prejudice for centuries.

I don't have the time to make an issue every time somebody gives me a "bad look." I don't give a damn what you eat as long as you leave me alone. If you don't like what some people do, stay away from those people. End of story.

You're the one with a prejudice. You're lumping millions upon millions of people into one category, based on your experience with a few. Most of us don't give a crap if YOU choose to eat meat. I choose not to. I'm not judging you, so please don't judge me. I'm not anorexic (and this was a very ignorant statement - anorexia is an eating disorder characterized by a warped body image, life-threatening weight loss, and a refusal to eat whereas vegetarianism is a choice based on ethics or the desire to improve one's health.) And there IS a point. And it IS healthy. If you bothered to do any research at all and to open your mind at all, you would know this. But your prejudice stops you from considering it from anything other than your narrow viewpoint. Just because YOU are prejudiced, don't assume we are.

The health benefits of eating meat FAR outweigh not eating it. In the long run vegitarians have a much lower standard of life (in old age) than do meat eaters. God wants us to eat meat or else why would he have given us Canine, and incisor teeth

If they are acting that way they lack Manners. You have the right to tell them so, in a non rude manner.
I could harper on that subject all day long.

I am a healthy Raw Vegan, I never am rude to others that don't eat the way I do.

I am a vegetarian, and those of us who look at others funny really have no right to do that. It's a choice, and I'm sorry you have friends like that.

I have the other side of the story, a lot of my friends appologize for eating meat in front of me, or around me, and I have to tell them it's really okay and it doesn't bother me unless I have to eat it.

I love animals, and the thought of killing them and eating them makes me really sad. That may sound crazy to you, but that's how I view things on life. I eat a LOT of other crap though :) So that makes it so I won't be anorexic. Though a lot of us are very very thin, myself included, things like cake and candy and carbs, and junk are not offlimits, so plenty of vegetarains could be fat.

A lot of girls, however, hide anorexia by saying they're vegetarian, and then going over the top with it, and that's how you know they're only "vegetarian" if that makes sense.

If you know how to substitute good foods into your diet and take the right vitamins, vegetarianism can be very healthy, it's just a matter of not being lazy!!! :-D

I hope some of your vegatarian friends get those sticks out of their butts and start letting you eat what you want to eat because it doesn't affect them. No matter how many people are vegetairans (unless it's like the entire population) animals will still be killed in order to be eaten, so no offense fellow vegetarians, but we can't stop that practice!!!

If it really bothers you, don't eat with him, or hold your evil eye back. Let this guy eat what he wants to eat!

I'm sure you interact with so many vegetarians on a daily basis that this is a common occurrence.
Guess what... we don't give a **** if you think it's unhealthy. You're not the one eating this way, we are.

Also, it's clear that you aren't actually asking a question or speaking from experience, but instead just ranting.

Apparently you have your own issues about eating meat and you're probably feeling guilty......I don't know any vegans or vegetarians that care what other people are eating.

We're quite happy doing ourselves a favour and watching everyone stuff their faces with animal carcass. You enjoy.

Cheers!

I don't think it is a matter of which diet is better as it is a matter of personal character. Some vegans/vegetarians will be rude, some will more polite and some will simply not give a damn. And that goes for non vegans/vegetarians too. Just look at the responses here. Some vegans/vegetarians offer simple direct answes while some would rather be rude and crude. Same goes for the "other side". Diet and health are personal choices and it's just plain bad manners to bad mouth one in favor on another. Each one has a ligitimate claim and perhaps it does work for some while it does not work for others. If you want to be a vegan/vegeetarian then fine do so. but don't be so crass as to say "eating pus, blood sh*T" etc do defend your lifestyle choice. That speaks more of your lack of proper manners rather than the benifits of your diet. Vegans are not also "pointless and anorexic". In the end, it is all a matter of choice. Live and let live.

Don't kid yourself, you don't know jack sh*t about being vegetarian and I doubt that you know any in real life.

You used god to prove your point, therefore you have no point.

Eat whatever the hell you want and if anyone bugs you while you are eating, tell them to shove it and tell them that they are just making veg people look bad when they try to make people feel uncomfortable.

This doesn't mean that I'd ever tell you that eating it is right.

Hate to burst your bubble but vegetarians are slightly more likely to be healthy people, but I'm not going to tell you that eating meat at all makes you sick so don't try to act like you know what's healthy and what's not.
