originally i became a vegetarian because i was a really picky eater. as a child in never clamored for mcdonald's cheeseburgers or anything like that. i never really cared for meat - the taste, the smell, the texture, anything.

i made the conscious switch to vegetarianism at about age twelve (i think - i remember the events but not the dates) when we had to do frog dissection. not only did i not dissect the frog, but i also cried my heart out. i think that was my first real anxiety attack. i joined PETA around the same time and i've been with them ever since.

when i first gave up meat, it was strictly red meat. i was still eating poultry (chicken and turkey), fish, and pork. until i visited a farm. i grew up picturing farms as sunlit, idyllic places where animals romp around happily in fields of daisies or something. and i'm sure that there's a family farm somewhere in america where this is the case. what i found was terrifying. animals packed so tightly into cages that they were barely able to move about. animals dying (literally) in the same spaces as where others were eating. and i got to see a cow get branded. that pretty much ended it for me.

i had a healthy vegetarian pregnancy. it was only natural to me - i wasn't eating meat at that time; why would i start up again? i did my research regarding vegetarian pregnancy. my doctor actually recommended it as well as finding information for me on vegan vitamins for pre-natal care (fyi - i ended up taking a children's supplement because regular ones make me ill).

i still don't eat most meat. i do eat the occasional seafood (for some reason i can't seem to cut it out of my diet). i gave up dairy foods shortly after my son was born as i've pretty severe lactose intolerance. i was never really a fan of red meat, and i've found that the "chicken" analogs are pretty good as far as taste without the gross, gamey texture.

mine is same reason, I think cruelty should stop. Susie

im a vegan because i love life. i feel really guilty when i eat/wear anything that has been made using an animal product.

so far, my health has improved dramatically, and i would never go back to my old carnivorous diet. blegh, what an ugly word =D

I live in Australia and the way the price of fruit and vegetables is going up then it is soon going to be very expensive to be a vegetarian .
I am a vegetarian because I don't like the thought of animals dying just so I can fill my stomach. Plenty of other things to eat out there.

My sister was a vegetarian for over 8 years. She was allergic to all types of meats. She grew out of it 2 years ago. She only eats chicken and turkey now.
Its a tough decision to become vegetarian especially when you eat meat everyday.
Best of Luck!

My doctor explained that the meat was killing me, causing me to have back aches etc. Since I do not care one way or the other about the animals because if they weren't meat animals they most likely would be extinct by now, it was a simple choice. Since I have been on a vegetarian diet for 5 years, I feel much better then I did before then.

I became a vegetarian because at the time was the pet food recall and they had discovered that the same product that was in the pet food was also being fed to pigs! Although they claimed that even if people ingest this through the pig, the amount is so tiny that it won't affect us. Well, bull sh*it. I'm not eating anything that can kill my cat! Of course, there are antibiotics and steroids which are pumped into these creatures and then we ingest it. Gross.
I also feel bad for the way they treat the animals. If I ever become pregnant I'm going to eat meat again, but only organic farm raised chicken. No factory farm!

i cant stand the way they treat them before they kill them and also i think every animal has the right to live.
to help you stop eating meat i would suggest buying the vegetarian meat you can get it at your local grocery store and it tastes exactly like real meat and is completely vegetarian

i have another way to help you not eat steak what you do is you go buy a raw steak from the grocery store and buy some peroxide that is like 70% peroxide and let the steak soak in it then you should see worms coming out of the steak it is disgusting!

i am a vegetarian cos meat tastes so bad, and red meat can clog up your body and its just healtier not to eat any meat.

I don't want to eat anything that was alive. It's just weird to me. I love animals too much to eat them.

Since becoming vegetarian, I feel the best emotionally and physically that I've ever felt in my life.

Because I was never a huge meat eater. It is also a lot healthier to be a vegetarian or a vegan. It is proven that it can make you a happier and healthier person.

Two basic reasons,

1. I get the distinct feeling that the media is not (either intentionally or unintentionally) properly reporting on the problems in the US food supply.

2. But for me...this drove it home.

I also love animals. I think they diserve to live to. I don't like how meat tastes I guess I dont like junk food either, I dont like soda, or chips or mc donalds. I dont know I think the healthyer the better it tastes

mine is the same reason as yours. Animal cruelty should stop! Plus I also don't like meat.
