Hare Krishna vegan meals?!

Question: A while back when i was in college and doing a report for a religious studies class i did a report on the hare krishnas and remember their free sunday open vegetarian meal as one of the better meals i have had. Now that i have been primarily a vegetarian for a few months i have been thinking about going back getting a free meal and maybe buying a cookbook. So the hare krishnas are somewhat sexist, they have had a few scandals, probably comparable to the catholic church and i dont think i have heard about any in a while. oh and george harrison thought they were cool. do any other vegetarians on here go and eat with them or use one of their cookbooks? will they brainwash me and make me wear a ducktail? is it ethical to buy a cookbook from them even though i am not sure if i support them (in their american incarnation that is)? do you think "my sweet love" is one of harrison's better songs or do you maybe prefer "taxman" or "while my guitar gently weeps"?

They do have vegan dishes, but a lot of what they cook contains dairy. They are very big on diary and talk a lot about the purity of cow milk etc. They are big on cow worship. So, I've been to their free vegetarian meals, also to their restaurant they have next door to the temple near here, and I've found it very difficult to get them to tell me which have diary and which do not. They have a free krishna cookbook they will give you called the higher life, I believe. Full of diary of course.

Not all of them are bad, not all priest are bad either. Their food is delicious so enjoy guilt-free. After all by being a vegetarian you are helping with environmental issues.

I was given some free food by one of their number in London in1973.

That makes me old enough to remember that Harrison's song is called My Sweet Lord, not 'my sweet love' ;-)

The food was ok, very heavy on the dairy, which I don't eat now.

As an atheist I don't have any time at all for their beliefs, and I didn't realise they still existed.
