What is the process of becoming a vegetarian?!
Answers: I am seriously thinking about becoming a vegetarian but I really like the taste of chicken. However, it's a sacrifice I'm more than willing to make.
I've been a vegetarian for over 10 years. You need to be careful and make sure that you do eat healthy. You should include alternate protein sources including for example dairy (milk, yogurt, cheese, etc.), beans, nuts. It's not difficult to get the recommended amount of protein. Many Americans are convinced that you can only get required protein through meat but this is false.
Previous posters mentioned Morningstar and Bocca; both good choices. I'll share with you a recent discovery that I made. Try an oriental supermarket if your city has one. The local oriental market where I live has ALOT of vegetarian choices. One just has to be more open minded about what to eat since most American dishes are centered around meat.
It's my opinion as well that it is especially important for vegetarians to take a daily vitamin supplement to make sure that they're getting enough B12. Although, if you have a very healthy diet full of natural unprocessed foods, this isn't as much as a concern.
Pick up a book about becoming a vegetarian and welcome to the club.
Good luck.
Stop eating meat and animal products. Tada! You're a vegan.
Step 1. Stop eating meat.
Done.
It's pretty simple.
No installation fees or anything!
Good luck.
Vegan on the other hand. That takes a LOT of reading ingrediant lists.
first you give up the meat and then start eating vegetables.
good luck, pal
Stop eating meat.
Quit bathing.
Start preaching.
good news! they have vegetarian chicken! and sausage and beef and evrything! 100% vegetarian,or vegan even!
so you dont have to give up the taste
a good vegetarian meat company is morningstar, its in the frozen food section of your local grocery store = D
good luck
you can get vegetarian chicken it is made out of soy they have it for alot of meats and it tastes exactly the same as meat. you can get it at your local health food store
oh and for the first answer a vegan is NOT the same as a vegetarian
My process was this: wake up one morning a meat eater, read a book outlining various arguments in favor of vegetarianism, decide that the essays really click with me, swear off meat and go to bed a vegetarian. Seriously, you can make it as simple as stopping eating meat right now, cold turkey, or you can make it gradual if that suits you better. If you cut out red meat first based on your affinity for chicken, you're really just giving the chicken that much more significance, which might make it harder to give up later.
everytime you think of eating meat...
think of a cow/chicken/pig...sitting there in the sun, soaking up some rays...loving life, eating food....
just having a great day...when suddenly...a scary looking man with a rope comes along, puts it around your neck and takes you into a dark room....he ties you down....and CUTS YOU INTO PEICES!!!!! Blood everywhere...the poor chicken/cow/pig just lies there...thinking about its wife and children, wishing to see them one last time...but its to late, becuase they will be someones dinner tonight....
think that.
and you wont want the meat.
Yay, congratulations! Well the first step is to get educated! So buy a book like A Complete Idiot's Guide to Being Vegetarian. That's the one I bought and it told me everything I needed to know.
After you get educated you can either slowly eliminate meat or just go "cold turkey".
A few tips that I have for you are::
?ALWAYS READ INGREDIENTS. Even if you're positive it's safe, read them. It could say vegetable soup, but then you find chicken stock in the ingredients. No matter what it is, read the ingredients. ALWAYS.
?Gelatin--icky. It's ground up animal bones if you didn't know. It's in things like starbursts, marshmellows, some cereals, some chips, poptarts, skittles, twizzlers..
?Taurine--icky. It's in energy drinks. I advise you to stay away from it.
?If you're curious about other ingredients check out this site (a lot of it applies to vegans, not vegetarians, but i like to be vegan as much as possible, so i avoid most of these) http://www.happycow.net/health-animal-in...
?Don't get discouraged. There are tons of substitutes that are just as yummy and taste even better since you know they're clean, reliable, and didn't cause an animal pain or suffering.
Hope this helps! GOOD LUCK! :D
Start thinking about animals and how they are sacrificed, watch on youtube a chicken getting it's head cut off, etc. all that jazz until you feel really bad about dead animals!
First you have to petition the Food and Drug Administration for permission to become vegetarian. Then, you go into federal court and present your petition. Your doctor needs to certify to the judge that the vegetarian diet is healthy. Finally, after paying a $500 fee, you are placed on the National Vegetarian Register. The sheriff's department will visit your house each month and search your freezer for any meat, and you will be hauled off to jail if it is found.
lol j/k
Stop eating meat. That's all there is to it.
Educate yourself about nutrition . You will find that meat is unnecessary and even harmful for a healthy way of life
try meat substitutes
look for them at Ralphs or Vons
Must i say thank u. well im cutting down one animal at a time. im starting w/ chicken cuz its the hardest to cut. i havent eatien chicken for 7 months as of Nov. 8. hope this helps.
that is very good, i wish you the best of luck, take care, go see your doctor you just can't go on a diet (vegetarian) with-out any help from your doctor, as you know your eating habits is going to change, it took me 2 months for my stomach to get used to eating, new foods, i know some people enzyme or either slower or faster, but i had nausea diarrhea and sick in the stomach, but after i went back to see my doctor again and i found out tha my body was going through shock, because i was going to fast and i had stop eating and drinking dairy product, and i had to take vitamins increase my magnesium, vitamin B6 zinc and calcium. but after i did all of that, i got better and ia'm fine and doing great, people usualy don't tell you all of what they been through, you got to educate your self, go on line on check it out for your self, welcome to the world , of vegetarian, be safe. you are doing the right thing..
I became a veggie gradually
1 - I stopped eating red meat
2 - I stopped eating white meat
3 - I stopped eating fish
4 - I stopped eating gelatine, rennet etc
If you like the taste of chicken you can get some chicken style Quorn which is supposed to taste like chicken. I've forgotten what chicken tastes like though so I can't tell you if it really does!
Good luck if you decide to become veggie!!

i think to be vegetarian i think u have to believe honestly by the reasons.like poor animals and all that.so its true u have to stop eating all kind of meat but u have first to feel with the animals and be convinced that its not right to kill them.personally that's what i think,I'm not vegetarian and i will never be but that's what i think u have to believe in the causes than stop eating meat.and good luck with it.
as a vegetarian for life, i love to hear that! people make it out to be harder than it really is. just dont eat anything that once had a face. milk, cheese, eggs, all that is fine. if you cut them out too, youd be a vegan. and let me tell you- fake chicken, although it sounds gross, really is good. try the brand BOCCA. good luck!
