What if you have bought a item but could not consume it before the sell- by- date?Is it still fresh?!

Question: It all depends on the item and how long after. But if it looks or smells funny, there is a chance that the food has accumulated additional bacteria, which is what is harmful about things past the shelf life. A few extra bacteria is not bad, but when it gets too old, it is potentially dangerous.

So, use common sense when you use something past the shelf life.

idk

what?

Sell-by date is not the same as consume-by date. It really depends on the item (dairy, meat, veg, etc.)

if unopened, then yes, just might not be as tasty as if you opened it timely

it will still be good a few days after the date, especially if it had never been opened or had the seal broken on it.

I always smell it first)especially of it's milk. I say 1 or 2 days MAX! after that? get ready to be sick if you eat or drink it!

Well, it isn't 'fresh' by any stretch of the imagination. But the sell by date is the date where the store sends it back if it hasn't sold. It doesn't suddenly go bad just because of the date on the calendar. It's probably okay to use.

Maybe, the sell by date is when it has to be sold, to give the consumer time to eat it, however; I personally don't, after the sell date you are kind of pushing your luck.

Usually it is still fresh a few days to a week after the sell-by-date, because that was just the sell-by-date. If it just says "Exp. date", then it usually is not fresh after that date. With bread and milk, you can usually tell by the smell. With some things, you can tell by the appearance of mold. When in doubt, throw it out.

Most have at least 7 days past the sell date where it's still OK to consume

the sell-by date just means that item has to be sold from the store by that date.then of course the customer would have time to eat it,so s=if its past its sell by date, then yes,its fresh, look for the "expireation date" and thats when you cant eat it anymore

Yes. The date to look for is the use by date. After that it is unreliable but may possibly be ok
