I want to become a vegetarian but I love the taste of meat?!

Question: I want to become a vegetarian because I hate the fact that we kill animals for food but I love the taste of meat and I would go to artificial meats but I have very sensitive taste buds and I can easily tell the difference. I can even tell the difference between Coca Cola and Pepsi.
Please help?

I doubt if you will ever convert then. I have to admit I don't like the idea of killing the animals either but would never stick to just vegetables.

If you are really not sure then just try to eat meat that has been better cared for and killed in a better way.

well, whats it guna be.

i dont know wat to tell you sorry

I guess it depends how strongly you feel about the issue - if you think that the principles are worth not being able to enjoy meat then you should go for it regardless. To be honest, if you felt strongly about it in the first place you probably wouldn't want to eat meat, regardless of how nice it tasted.

Yeah, i feel the same way and i'm still eating meat. I don't think that you'll be able to find a replacement for meat that will satisfy you...i didn't

many people love the taste of meat, you have to set your priorities

Of course you can tell the difference between faux meats and real meat. Its not meant to taste the same, its an alternative.

Your taste buds, or caging, abusing and killing animals - which is more important to you, thats all you have to decide.

Its not about taste, its about sponsoring cruelty.

Its the tiniest of life changes and yet has a gret impact on the welfare of animals. It you like animals, to continue eating meat for the sake of your tastebuds could be considered a tad selfish really.

If the good Lord hadn't wanted us to eat animals, he wouldn't have made them out of meat!

I don't get why you're asking this question.

A lot of people that become vegetarian love the taste of meat. It's a sacrafice. Don't eat fake meats if you don't like the taste.

i wish i could tell the difference between coca cola and pepsi

well all I can say is dont become a vegetarian. Its so sad the way animals die sowe can eat meat and we dont even appreciate it. Onsecond thouhgt u should become one u're be one more person on our way to living and eating better.Ok this is going nowhere.I wanna be a vegetarian my bff is but I dont believe her because shes so fat!! No one eats meat is that big. Tofu and soy are your best options they're kinda your only options.just pour some hot sauce of anything you'll be fine.

You could try cutting out meat alltogether, and just going for cheese, mushrooms and other protein-rich foods that are not artificial meat. That way, you don't have to suffer through the (often horrible) taste of artificial meat.
Another thing you could do is go organic: only eat meat that comes from animals raised as naturally as possible - in a pasture instead of in stables, for instance.

I'm a vegetarian and have been for nearly 20 years. Firstly, don't hate that we kill animals for food. Animals kill animals for food. Its the way nature created us. BUT - the problem is the way we keep and kill them. So you can do a few different things:

There are loads of fake meat products on the market these days, and some of them are really good. Even my meat loving boyfriend will eat them - especially if you mix it in like using fake ground beef in pasta sauce. Try adding some things into your diet in place of meat, and see if it works for you. In this way, you can simply cut back the amount of meat you consume.

See if you have an organic farm near you that raises free range, organic animals. Often you can buy your meat directly from the source and in this way you still get meat without supporting big cruel, commercial farms. And you know where your meat came from!

I'm afraid there's nothing you can do except use your will power - you have to decide whether your beliefs about animals outweigh your desire to taste meat - its really hard, don't underestimate the amount of times you'll have to deny yourself, but it does get easier and easier until after a while you forget quite often that other people do eat meat. my suggestion - do a week's trial and see how you get on, then make a decision - either keep going with it, or go back eating meat. good luck.

MorningStar makes the best tasting veggie meat I've ever had. They have corn dogs, chicken nuggets, ground 'beef,' hot dogs, breakfast sausage and the list goes on and on. Trust me, I've tasted my share of veggie meat and most of it is inedible, but this is yummy. Also, if you would like to stop drinking milk, 8th Continent makes great soy milk. It's not chalky or funky tasting at all. The vanilla is my favorite and I think it makes cereal taste even better than with regular milk. Plus, both of these brands can be found at regular supermarkets, so you don't have to make extra trips to the healthfood store.

No way dont give up prok chops they're wayyy too gooood!

ahh, get over the we kill animals thing. we are carnivors since our teeth evolved that way. nothing wrong with fishing. even deer hunting helps the deer population stay at a healthy environment for them. i would be more concerned about who and where you get your meat from and not support corporations that use all these steroids and stuff to mass produce the product.

In the taste test i prefer coke.

You kill plants when you eat them too. Doesn't that get to your conscience also?

sauted mushrooms are a great substitute, and a thing called saton (i know it sounds weird) i've heard is a great sub for meat

If every body in the world would become a vegetarian we would all starve to death.

I guess than you have to go into it with a different mind set. You are going to try the veggie meats as a veggie meat...not whether it tastes the same as the real thing.
And you have to decide if you want to be a veggie because of political reasons or for health reasons....
I find it difficult making a dietary stance on the forum of politics myself... I am a veggie...because it is healthier and because it is better for me!

Step one: stop drinking coke and pepsi. Step two: limit your meat intake. For a long time before i went vegetarian i was just trying to eat meat 2-3 times a week or less. It ok to start by just limiting your intake and go from there as far as what works for you. But dont make excuses for yourself and do nothing. And as far as meat substitues, they dont fool me either, take them on their own terms and eat the ones you like because you like them. For instance, I am a fan of black bean burgers myself, and i think the more they taste like black beans instead of fake meat the better.

troll.

I'm with you on the whole Pepsi/Coke thing. Although I am not a vegetarian, I have tried some of the meat alternatives, some are better than others. Generally, if you want readily prepared stuff, you can't go far wrong with Linda McCartney stuff. Her sausages are lovely. Quorn is okay but just doesn't have the consistency of meat and does not hold flavour too well, so doesn't make the best pies or bolognese.

For me personally, God put animals on this planet for us to use and enjoy. Provided that we treat them in a humane way, we are doing what He wants. He gave us animals to help work the land (asses and oxen) to accompany us (dogs and perhaps at one time wolves), to help us with pest control (cats and birds of prey) for our enjoyment (all kinds of animals, pets and wild) and for our food and clothing (furs, meat, poultry, fish, skins and oils). Some civilisations would die without them, for example the eskimos would hardly survive without their fish diety, the blubber they need from seals and the skins from other animals. It is when they are killed in a non humane way, or treated in a non-humane way that I disagree with it. As butchers in this country (other than halal and kosher) are legally bound to slaughter the animals in an extremely humane way, I have no problem eating them. (Cows for example are given a single spike like shot to their brain stem, killing them instantly and they know nothing of pain or fear, one minute they are, one minute they aren't.

If you want to avoid food caught inhumanely, do not eat kebabs (likely to be halal meat, which is slaughtered according to old Islamic law and requires the animal to bleed to death, much like kosher meat) and do not eat fish (such as tuna) that is not dolphin friendly (in other words, caught in nets that also entrap dolphins).

Other than that, it is a basic choice that only you can make. But do you stop there? Or do you chose never to wear or buy leather or suede goods, sheepskin or pigskin included? Perhaps you could research the subject a little bit more, build arguments for and against and then when you have all the information, you will be in a better position to make your mind up and see how you really feel. I'm off for a nice juicy steak now.

dnt deny yourself the pleasure of a good quality rare steak just because you wanna be a hippy.Veggie's are sad

God created animals to be eaten.and sooner or later they ll be died, just enjoy ur life...(duh).....!!
