Is soy milk safe?!

Question: I read an article on the Yahoo homepage a few weeks ago about the dangers of consuming unfermented soy products, like tofu and soy milk. I’m just wondering if it is another one of those “phantom danger” reports, like the ones you see on aspartame giving you brain tumours, when in fact the product is perfectly safe. Can anyone provide links to an actual peer-reviewed study that supports the safety of soy? Thanks!

It's meaningless propaganda that is used on ignorant N. Americans. Think about it, a billion people drink the stuff, eat the stuff, deep fry the stuff, have a billion different recipes, eat it every day... without any problems in Asia... why would it be any different over on the other side of the ocean in N. America? It isn't.

Generally its very safe but here is a web page that lists benefits and claims of negative health affects. One thing I do know is that because of a horomone it contains it can very slightly alter the dates of menstral cycles and can increase breast size so I wouldn't really advise large consumption for men... good luck!

yes

umm aspartame actually does give people brain tumours :/ it contains an excitotoxin.

ive researched quite far into that subject, as i am allergic to some food additives...

the aspartic acids, free glutamates and sodium laur* sulfate compounds really are poisons... there is irrefutable proof for all of those.

the problem with soy is that most of it really is processed rubbish, i mean i could understand if it was the whole bean people were eating... but this hydrolzied and hydrogenated stuff is really really bad for you. trans fatty acids are even worse than saturated fats for contributing to obesity and heart disease.

there not a lot of definitive research on soy, especially on long term consumption. i dont see any point taking chances when theres plenty of other food out there that can provide the nutrients that soy does, it is far too over consumed, eating too much of any single thing is bad for you, let alone what it may or may not have in it.

i think whole foods are better for us anyway, they are easier to digest and contain less toxins.

yess i drink it all the time
i havent gotten sick once
i think it is really safe

Look at it this way:

Vegers say it's safe, everyone else says it isn't. Vegers are only 1.5% of the U.S. population.

Soy milk is UNFERMENTED soy. That's where the problem originates.

Only in moderation but it depends on the ingredants in some brands like some contain aspartame an unneeded ingredient but everything should be done in moderation.
