Vegan Candy Check: Nerds?!
Answers: Hey, I was just wondering if people could tell me if Nerds (wonka) are vegan. To answer any variables, I am a strict vegan, no gelatin or whey or anything like that. Nothing living (well, excluding plants.). So please help me with this. Thanks.
Last I heard there were two vegan flavors (I don't remember which) but the rest have carmine. You can probably call or e-mail Wonka and ask them about their ingredients. Most companies are pretty good about answering (they have to be these days, since food allergies are such a sensitive topic.)
Nerds have carmine in them. I'm unsure if it's only in the red ones, or if it's all of them though.
Hey, PETA & PETA 2 has a list of foods that are accidentally vegan. They make a disclaimer that they do accept minute amounts of animal product, meaning if it's 99.9% pure they find it acceptable because it still sends a message to manufacturers that animal products are unacceptable. Nope, they have carmine. I saw one that doesn't have carmine, but does have confectioner's glaze with it, and that's typically made from insect secretions.
im pretty sure they have carmine in them. but i dont eat them anyway. im a strict veg 2. also skittles, marshmallows, poptarts have gelatin in them. i have never had skittles in my life and dont really plan on it either. nerds and skittles look lot like mini balls of colored sugar if u ask me.
