Peanut butter almost always contains aflatoxin, a very strong carcinogen. Major brands can have TEN TIMES LESS aflatoxin than store brand or freshly ground peanut butters. They also tend to have added oil and sugar, though. I'd go with Laura Scudder brand, which doesn't have added sugar - just plain old peanuts. Or better yet, use almond butter!

Most nuts and grains and legumes contain aflatoxin in some amount. Sprouting and soaking helps destroy this potent toxin. I try and avoid eating nut butters (haha I actually typoed that as but nutters first) TOO often and I try to soak then dehydrate my nuts to break down that toxin. Roasted nuts still contain the mold. Raw nuts are better for your health, but to be most healthy they should be soaked (germinated) to break down enzyme inhibitors, making them easier to digest, and boost nutrition (as much as 255 more of some vitamins because the nut is getting ready to grow a plant and becomes "alive" versus "dormant"). If you then dehydrate them they become crunchy again, but with more nutrition and less toxin. That is probably more work than most people want to do though. We live in a very fast-paced society and maybe liver cancer is just the price we have to pay.
Stored grains and corn are a good host for aflatoxin, too (again, soaking helps get rid of that toxin). It seems like just about everything can kill you, huh? *sigh*

Read up on aflatoxins. At least you can then make an educated decision:

I think that the natural PB tastes good, yes. The main thing that I have noticed with it is that it is really hard to spread, probably because of it's lack of oils and fat.
I think that it's worth the money to try.

Natural peanut butter is incredible. and better than jif is often health type stores will have their own fresh peanut butter grinder machine. tasty stuff. Dont be scared of the way food looks, that is silly- just try it.

i think it tastes the same as the"unnatural peantbutter" it might even taste better to me just because i don't feel as guilty eating it

I actually bought the Skippy Natural and it is really good. Not all that different from the regular peanut butter you are used to. I would try it. If you are still worried, just buy a small jar and if you don't like it, give it to someone who does.

If it's over $10 for a 8 oz. jar and says it's "vegan and organic" it is the nectar of the Gods and lesser peanut butters are worthless and unworthy.

Natural peanut butter is fantastic. It's so silly that natural PB is considered "weird" and people are scared to buy it, when it is how peanut butter always used to be.

Peanut butter is just ground peanuts. That's it. Sometimes people will throw in salt and that's good, but simply ground peanuts is one of the greatest foods we have. I've always wondered why corporations see it fit to take a perfect, natural product with one ingredient and add sugar, preservatives, corn syrup, yellow #5, and ten other things it doesn't need.

As far as price, there are brands that will charge more, but you can usually find a generic or store brand that is just as good for a fraction of the cost. Enjoy!

There is no regulation defining the word 'natural' as everything is natural is a way... poison is completely natural, chemicals are a natural result of evil people doing what they naturally do best. So, even if Kraft or WalMart or Jif or Skippy came out with an all natural or even organic brand, I would never buy it. They will always cut corners and do whatever it takes (slave labour etc) to increase their profits. Better to support smaller companies that from the very start are all about organic, natural, environmental, etc.

it pretty much tastes the same, but the oil and PB separate, so you have to be sure and stir it well and keep in a warm cupboard, so the PB doesn't get too hard..

I use it all the time.. tastes fine... tastes like PB..
