What is Edamame and where can I get it?!
Do I need to go to a health food store?
Is it expensive?
Also, please tell me your personal opinion on how it tastes.
Answers: I know that edamame is immature soybeans... I looked it up on WIKI, but I need to know what it looks like and if I can get it from a regular grocery store (meijer/ kroger/ kmart).

They either come in pods or already shelled. They look like large peas when shelled. At my local grocery, I find them in the organic foods' frozen shelf. I can only get them at the upscale grocery in my city - otherwise I have to go and grab it from an Asian supermarket. If you can find an Asian grocery, they'll sell plenty of kinds for a couple of bucks. At the regular grocery, they cost about five bucks a bag.
They taste like fresh peas, to me, but with a slightly nutty flavour. They're really good, very filling, and a really easy snack.
Try an Asian grocery store. Even if the store says it's Chinese, most likely they sell some Japanese and Korean foods also.
Well even though this is already know it is soy beans and you might be able to find them in a dried state in certain stores that sell a lot of food or you could try going to an asian supermarket. It isn't really expsensive but it depends on the kind you get and it just tastes like regular beans and has a sweet taste kind of but barely like powdered sugar.
They are green and have an outer shell like sugar snap peas. You now can get the shelled type which look like large green peas or the ones with shelled in the frozen dept of the grocery. They taste delicious to me. I love them. They are good for you too.
I love them! And, I get them at Wal*Mart and Target! =]
They taste good, and even better with salt, lol. But, I also mix them with noodles or rice sometimes too. To me, they taste like sugar snap peas.
Edamame is the fancy name for soybeans. I get them at HEB shelled and frozen--you can get them at pretty much any grocery store.
They are GREAT just heated up in water and a little salt in the microwave and eat them just like that. They are delicious! A yummy nutty flavor. mmm.....
Steamed and salted they are terrific "bar food" in Japan. They are soybeans and you shell them. Really good!!!
It is a beautiful green and the little beans are brighter green and shiny. Also, they come in a pod like sugarsnap peas. I steam them and season them while they're cooking with a little soy or salt; some folks get really creative. Always check the package; some come pre-seasoned. Also, if you have a choice between beans in the pod or pre shelled, get the ones in the pod. I've tried the pre shelled ones several times and I really don't like them. To me they taste waxy and pastey, kind of like lima beans. But the ones in the pod--Mmmm! I was hooked the first time I tried them. They're wonderful hot or cold. No, you don't need to go to a health food store. Most supermarkets carry them, except Walmart. When I first started shopping there about 2 yrs ago, you couldn't even find brown rice :D.
