What should a vegetarian do when they get a cold?!
Thanks
Answers: It's my first time getting sick since I became veggie 6 months ago. I am so used to loading up on chicken soup when I get sick that I'm not quite sure what to do to nurse myself back to health, aside from the requisite vitamin C intake and lots of rest.
Thanks
Vegetable soup is just as good as chicken soup, well actually its better!
there isnt any active cold fighting ingredient in chickens thats activated when its turned into soup...
its just clear broth soup that does all the good work.
i would make a vegetable soup, something like vegetarian tom yum. i would use stuff like brocolli, bruseel sprouts, celery, leek, carrot, onions... anything really, id rather green and white vegetables and id have chillies and ginger in there too.
broccoli and brussel sprouts are a great source of vitamin c, and having them in soup gives them flavor and makes them easier to eat. chillies and ginger are great to heat up the system and help burn through the cold.
i would also be sure to have a clear broth, no milks at all, and no artificial additives, make it myself from scratch.
Good Luck : )
whiskey and cigars. 100% all vegtable.
veggie puree soup
yummmmm
Three words; miso and chai.
Drink alot of tea and rest. Worked for me :)
i've been a vegetarian for over a year now, there are loads of veggie soups at your local supermarket, or go online to find recipes. Drink hot tea with lemon. Most importantly, is to get alot of rest. hope you feel better.
Eat a spicy noodle soup see how i excluded the chicken part. Lol! It's delicous make your own if u can't find it in the stores or in the cambells soup make your own spicy noodle soup it is delicous!
Take in foods with lots of antioxidants. They help boost your immune system. Yogurt is a very healthy food. Eat as many fresh foods as you can. Green tea is best, but other herbal teas also help soothe you when you've got a cold.
Hope this helps.
My Daughter has been a vegetarian for many years.......I buy her alot of items from the vegetarian section at the local grocery store......one of her favorites is vegetarian chicken noodle soup...you just have to train yourself to start looking for the variety of vegetarian items out there.
get blind stinking drunk .... is what I do and the hangover is so bad you forgotten about your cold.
Do like that everyone else does, find a cure for it or but up with it.
Minestrone Soup (Italian, Vegetable Soup) works great!
Drink green tea, eat no chicken noodle soup. There's plenty of stores that have it.
Hope this helps!
Oh and to that John person who answered if you're reading this::: Find a hobby, you dickwad! NO, why the hell would a vegetarian be in the vegetarian and vegan section?
Miso soup with onion.
well tea with honey and lemon ofcourse, and veggie soup with loads of garlic, it's the garlic in the chicken noodle soup that makes it the "feel better soup" so garlic garlic garlic, feel better
Drink alot of orange juice, herbal teas, and get extra rest. Vegetable soup works well also it is the broth and the spices that helps not the dead bird.
Black pepper is a good decongestant.
Chicken noodle soup...minus the chicken?
The same as everyone else! Get plenty of sleep, take your vitamins, and drink plenty of fluids.
here are some options---
i give up meat for Lent and this is what i do---
eat a vegetarian soup.
drink lots of juice! (such as grape juice, apple juice, pineapple juice, or orange juice)
eat lots of fruit
and eat soft things, because they are easy to eat and digest, such as a cinnamon loaf of bread that i found at Jewel.
congrats on being vegetarian!!
vegetarians should be highly admired and respected
so that's what you get from me
along with this advice.
hope you get better soon!!!
i like to drink some nice hot chocolate, or tea. Some tomatoe soup and a grilled cheese(not for vegans). But that is usually VERY nice ot have wen cold!!
Chicken soup as the specific remedy for a cold is an old wives tale. The reason it makes you feel better is a combination of the warmth, highish caloric/protein content, good source of fluid, and above them all, that you've been told it helps.
Make yourself a can of vegetarian vegetable soup (many have a meat base, so be careful), a pbj sandwich, and a mug of hot chocolate. If you really want the comfort of the chicken soup taste, there are some reasonably good veg imitations out there. My favorite is the Fantastic Foods one.
Also, drink a lot of water.
Feel better.
Make sure to get your fluids. You can't do anything for a cold. If you normally exercise, keep exercising. If you want the comfort of chicken noodle soup, get some veggie bouillon cubes and make veggie broth (which tastes exactly like chicken broth) or get some canned Amy's No-Chicken Noodle Soup. Fantastic Foods also has packages that makes an 8-cup pot of vegan chicken noodle soup. I don't think it's as good as the Amy's though.
