I've managed to go a whole day without meat?!

Question: The only things I had that some vegetarians don't have was milk but I don't see how that affects the cow as we don't have to kill them to get the milk.
Oh, and I had Roast Chicken flavoured crisps but that was artificial flavouring so I think I did well today.
Do you?
I'm not a vegetarian but I want to be one.

Why do you want to be a vegetarian? Health reasons or to avoid killing animals?

Depending on where you live the day may not be over yet......

try 6 years....

ok - vegetarians r allowed 2 have milk and stuff, but vegans are the people who do not have milk, cheese or any other dairy product along with not eating meat

well done!! i'm not a vegitarian and dont no how i could last without meat for a whole day!! xoxo

Most vegetarians eat dairy products so long as it is produced from cows that have not been mistreated. Basically the cows live in comfortable conditions, aren't overcrowded, aren't given hormones or given large amounts of antibiotics. This may be called several things including happy cows, free range (usually used for chickens ,but I've seen it for cows, cruelty free, and even organic). People who eat no animal products (including dairy) are called vegans. You did a good job of not eating meat, but I bet the Chicken flavored crisps weren't that good for you, probably full of sodium and additives. If you want to be successful at being vegetarian, find yourself a good restaurant that serves good vegetarian food, and buy yourself a good vegetarian cookbook. I suggest the Moosewood Cookbook to start. Also, don't forget to eat leafy greens like spinach and broccoli so you get all the vitimins and protein you need. Good luck!

Being a vegetarian Corey-Dale isnt just about not eating meat for a day - its a way of life & state of mind. ask yourself why you want to be a veggie? - if you like the taste of meat you can get meat substitiutes these days but being a veggie myself i could never understand why you would want to but each to there own. Veggie diets have much less fat but cooking meat in certain ways can be low fat also - meat does contain protien & you must put a substitute in its place if you decide to give it up such as pulses/rices etc - you can eat fish & chicken & still be veggie but if you start harping on about milk & crisps then your going down the vegan route - i have much tastier meals & such a choice being veggie & my skin weight hair nails etc have all improved with great improvements over the years so i believe that alone is worth it - but dont think about what you eat to much &cut back gradually - you will soon loose the taste for animal fat which is quite bad for you anyway - good luck

congratulations. The reasons that some vegetarians don't eat milk, milk products and eggs are moral ones. They feel that it is stealing from the animals and their young. Others see it as a non-intrucive way to still get the animal protein that we need (ok some people need). Soya and other products are so good right now, and getting better, that most of the vitamins, minerals and aminoacids that humans need(ed) from animal sources, we can get from processed vegetable sources.

Roast Chicken flavored crisps Probably has chicken fat or something like that. They put it under "Natural Flavoring"

Milk and how it affects the cow:
Cows Suffer on Dairy Farms
Cows produce milk for the same reason that humans do—to nourish their young—but calves on dairy farms are taken away from their mothers when they are just 1 day old. They are fed milk replacers (including cattle blood) so that their mothers’ milk can be sold to humans.(1,2)

Female cows are artificially inseminated shortly after their first birthdays.(3) After giving birth, they lactate for 10 months and are then inseminated again, continuing the cycle. Some spend their entire lives standing on concrete floors; others are confined to massive, crowded lots, where they are forced to live amid their own waste. Cows have a natural lifespan of about 25 years and can produce milk for eight or nine years. However, the stress caused by the conditions in animal factories leads to disease, lameness, and reproductive problems that render cows worthless to the dairy-products industry by the time that they’re 4 or 5 years old, at which time they are sent to be slaughtered.(4,5)

Good for you -- not only are you doing something positive for the animals, but if you stick with it your body will thank you, too! You've made a wonderful, compassionate choice.

You'll be fine if you are sure to focus on including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts, legumes, seeds and soy products in your diet.

Take care and good luck

What do you want, a medal?

And you want a brownie button????.........

Reward yourself with a nice barbied slab of salmon with dill sauce and capers, dear. A job well done.

Well, a whole day is a start, some vegetarians, called vegans, do not eat any animal products at all, including milk. If you are not eating meat due to the fact that we kill animals, make sure you back it up with not wearing leather or suede, this is used in trainers as wel as shoes. Remember though, than in this country, animals slaughtered for meat (except halal and kosher meat) are killed in an extremely humane way. They never have any idea that they are about to die, before the animal is slaughtered, it is given a shot with a stell rod, straight to the brain cortex. One minute it is getting a cuddle from the exterminator, the next it just does not exist, there is no pain, no fear, no nastiness. God meant us to have food, sometimes this comes from the animals we keep. In the Bible, creatures were killed in the Kosher manner, which is far less humane than the way we kill them today, and God was fine with that. Make sure you do get enough protein, fat and iron in your diet.

Good for you. It's best to start off slowly when deciding (or at least considering) going veggie to see how you get on. There are 3 main types of vegetarian. It's up to you which diet you choose to adopt:

LACTO-OVO
Includes both eggs and dairy products in their diet

LACTO
Dairy products but no eggs

VEGAN
Consumes no animal products whatsoever (usually including honey)

Most crisps often use artificial flavourings such as yeast extract to give taste to 'meat' flavoured packets (like beef for instance) so I wouldn't really worry to much about that. Depends what brand you buy. 'Walkers' are good: http://walkers.corpex.com/CR15p5/text/di...
