There are a lot of bruised bananas in stores. Were they used in "gorilla warfare"?!

Possibly, but I think it's more likely the produce clerks were just "monkeying" around.

To make this not a complete waste of time let me say that you can freeze bruised and over-ripe bananas and use them in recipes later!
The more you know...

the refrigeration ruins the bananas rapidly. If you want to freeze them - do it quickly otherwise try to get some from
unrefrigerated venders.

I have had the same question and I wrote to Whole Foods Market. They replied that they are equally puzzled and are looking into it. I really do believe them. They said that the weather has been getting more extreme in banana growing areas, but don't know if this has affected the bruised bananas.
