I can't eat fruits and vegetables now?!
Answers: I just started a vegan diet this past month and I promised myself to live cruelty-free. My boyfriend yesterday brought up the fact that since they use pesticides to KILL the insects from produce, I can't eat them. What do I do!?
I can't believe so many people are uninformed about organics. Of course they use pesticides. They don't toss their crops out in the field and then just hope for the best.
It's impossible to be a true, perfect vegan so just do what you can when you can and don't worry so much about the status symbol.
eat organic
Eat organic.
eat organic fruits and veggies...no pesticides involved....
Get over it.
Pest control is a necessary and acceptable part of life. I occasionally kill flies because they threaten health.
Organic
Yes Eating organic would be the best for you...since they dont use any harsh chemicals
well i just recently had my wisdom teeth taken out, so i had to eat soft foods
you should eat
yogurt with fruit, or like a cup of fruit
they have been spraying pesticides for a long long time..We were just taught you have to rinse the vegs and fruit beofre eating them..If that was the case they wouldnt even sale them..
Buy the organic ones--they do not use pesticides. Health food stores have them and there are some online stores. I even have found a few at our Kroger store nearby. Don't give up on the fruits and veggies. You are on the right track! Also--they have the capsules now with all the veggies and fruits in pill form--but I enjoy eating the fresh organic ones! Good luck!
You can eat vegetables if you use some product to wash them well and remove any traces of pesticide, also buy them in stores that guarantee pesticide free veggies, don't give up your convictions of living cruel free for the pesticides
Go organic. That's about all you can do. Don't go overboard. Bugs die. Everything does. What you are attempting to avoid is intentional cruelty towards other living things.
I feel your pain. You feel this because you are an highly evolved being.
My personal solution is ..I am top of the food chain, evolution / God put me here.
Im not smarter or more rightous then God or Evolution. therefore I eat what my wife serves me.
I hope you find the answer that helps you.
Wow, worried about killing a bug?
Wow, why would your boyfriend do that? Can't see you trying to do something so he would distort your conscience. Anyways, not EVERYONE uses pesticides for their fruits and vegetables. If you really want to, even though it's hard to do, you can grow your own fruits and veggies.
You could also buy things that don't need pesticide( if there is any fruits and veggies that don't use it)
I'm at a loss of words here. It's so hard to change the world when that's just how it is. I wanted to be a vegetarian too, but couldn't because of my protein needs and lack of the money to buy all the other foods I would need. Your intentions are noble. Look at it like this: you're not killing a lot of cows and pigs and lamb and all that other stuff anymore.
Good luck!
Acknowledge that you are part of the food chain and the animal kingdom. Get over it. It's one thing to avoid being cruel but are lions cruel for killing a gazelle? NO. You ARE the human animal and there is nothing wrong with that. Quit living your life like it's a slogan and have a steak... and, for pity's sake, eat a piece of fruit when you feel like it.
By the way, you'd be surprised at what passes for "organic." Just because the label says it's organic doesn't mean it truly is organic.
Be a vegetarian and campaign for animal rights causes. You'll do much more good that way, look way less pretentious, and become much less concerned with the vanity of whats going in to your body.
This may help you. You do what you like to do.
1. No matter what you eat, some one kills it for you or you kill it or it gets killed in the stomach (example: some seeds or veg that you eat without cooking, most fruits are alive and if left alone fall to ground and reproduce, yet another plant). Insects and microbes also get killed in cooking or in the stomach, by acids, some actually help the digestive process, example of this is full culture non pasteurised yogurt.
2. Every thing dies sooner or later.
3. Vegan or vegetarian or non-veg is up to you.
In most countries there are harvesting laws on even wild, fruits, veg, and animal. Most of the time a very "So called Humane method" is only used for killing.
4. Most of the time we are eating only the items that are allocated for eating or grown for eating or raised for the specific purpose of human consumption. (Example: Hybrid seed are produced separately from regular consumable fruits and vegetable, they are sprayed with different chemicals and are processed and stored, and distributed, same thing is true of breeding live stock).
If you're worried about the death of bugs (murder) then you better look out when you're walking on the street, or driving. When you sleep, you even swallow small insects. Mowing the lawn - death. When you come to think of it, there is no prevention of killing bugs, insects, animals, people and earth!
Maybe he's just trying to get you to change your mind? Anyway, you don't have to force limits on yourself, you can draw the line where you want. You can be vegan and still eat non-organic fruit and veg.
I guess you'll have to starve to death.
OR
You could get over it.
you can't survive without fruits and vegetable.
it's not healthy at all,
don't even try it.
don't be silly.
and THEY don't KILL the insects,
the insects KILL themselves by eating the pesticides.
start your own garden or something
or eat only grains/ nuts/ snacks
but it will not be healthy to eliminate fruits and vegetables because they have pesticides or something.
