Does a vegan diet make you fart?!

Question: Is it the transition to lots of soya products? Does it last forever?

The increase in fiber can produce lots of gas! I know. Been there, done that. Make a slow transition to increase your fiber and soy intakes.

I have been a veggie for a month and I was farting like a trooper. So therefore being a vegan must be marginally worse for the bottom trombone.

Your body will adjust in the mean time get some beno.

Soy is the reason for the explosive episodes.

Only if you eat to much soy and/or fiber. That's my personal experience.

I was vegan for 2 years once and I don't recall having those kind of problems.

Veggies will make you fart. Generally, vegans eat only plant-based products..... so yes. Your body will even out eventually..... But cows eat grass and they fart ALL THE TIME. Cats eat meat and they don't fart so much.....

Just embrace the farting.

Only if you eat your food in the wrong order.. food that is digested quickly by the stomach eg fruit should not be consumed after eating a protein based food which takes longer to digest, because it ferments in the stomach producing gas..

I've never had that problem.

Answer Fairy, you haven't met my cat!

most of the time, a makes a person very boring. eat some meat baby!

The only time my diet has really given me terrible gas *like that* was when I tried Boca. It was raunchy. I've only tried it a few times and each time it gave me gas *like that*. It tasted pretty gross so I gave up on it and hve not really had any issues since. I'm sure your body will adjust.

Answer Fairy - my cat farts up a storm and he is on an all meat, no grain diet! God, he stinks sometimes.

It can do. I had a problem for a long time, but it turned out to be due to drinking soya milk, and when i gave that up it went away. It helps to eat slowly, chew a lot, 50 times a mouthful or so, and boil pulses for a long time, depending on the pulse, after soaking them in boiling water and throwing away the liquid. Adding caraway seeds, fennel and actually most of the popular culinary herbs or spices can help, but it tends to make you smell of aniseed instead.

I think its because vegans eat more fibre because of the things they eat like pulses, beans, fruit and vegetables. I guess it will not be so bad after a while once your body gets used to the extra fibre.

Yes, but even if they stop they still smell.

Beans are notorious for flatulence.

I am a vegan and have never had this problem

A vegan diet is rich in fiber and if your digestive system isn't used to it, it might take a period of adjustment. Soaking dried beans thoroughly before cooking cuts down on this. Your body will get used to the additional fiber and you won't have this problem forever!

Vegans ARE farts.
