I need help making a veggie burger?!
Answers: So I got pretty much everything except for two things: oat bran and korean bbq sauce. What exactly is the oat bran you put in here, the cereal? And for the bbq sauce, where should I go for that, cuz I went to a big supercenter store kinda like walmart, but they didn't have it...so...help please?
I just use Quaker Oats for my veggie burger's but I know a lot of people (I personally just think they have a problem with Quakers or the state of Pennsylvania) prefer Presbyterian Oats. Really any oats will do. For Korean bbq sauce, I prefer Hwang Sung Puk's BBQ Marmalade. I get it from the Korean lady down the street from me. She says she gets it from the Korean market on 8th Street in Peoria (where we live). I don't know, because I'm frankly afraid to go in there. I'm also afraid of what the marmalade is made of, but ignorance is bliss in the world of fake burgers.
If you couldn't find BBQ sauce in wal-mart supercenter on Veteran's day weekend (assuming you are in the US) then I'd just give up and buy a box of the laureled by vegans standby, the almighty Boca Burger.
I don't have your recipe, but perhaps you have the ingredients to make this one.
SPICY VEGAN BURGERS
6 tsp. olive oil
3/4 cup chopped onion
1 clove minced garlic
1/2 chopped red Chile pepper (or 1/2 tsp. chili powder)
1/4 tsp. ginger
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
3/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
3/4 cups cooked black beans, rinsed and drained
3/4 cups cooked long-grain white rice
1 cups dry bread crumbs
2 hamburger buns, split
Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onions and garlic; cook and stir for a few minutes. Mix in the Chile pepper and continue cooking until tender.
Remove from the heat and transfer to a bowl. Pour in the beans, rice and bread crumbs. Season with ginger, salt, allspice and nutmeg. Mix thoroughly using your hands.
Form into 2 patties. Heat the remaining oil in the same skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the patties until golden on each side. Serve on buns with your favorite toppings.
NOTE----Almost all supermarkets carry BBQ sauce. It is usually in the aisle with the ketchup and salad dressing. If you can't find it, ask someone and they can assist you.
