As a recent vegan, is it Ok to just smell the turkey this Thanksgiving?!

Question: I'm not going to eat it. But I understand the the olfactory glands are triggered by the atomimized remains of a dead animal. A turkey in this case. Since that is the case, aren't I actually consuming the charred remains of a living animal through my nose?

Yes that's completely true. It also works for you when you are consuming the gases that are expelled after food is digested.

are you serious?

just go ahead and eat it if you are going to smell it.

Um.. okay.
I'm vegetarian and I like the smell of some meat. But, we all know that the smell comes mostly from the seasonings.

Yeah, I guess you're right. Good thing there aren't vegetarian police running around huh? Why don't you just do what you want to do? Vegetarians make their own set of rules and guidelines and don't have to answer to anybody. So if you want to get your nose all up in a turkey, go for it. Or if you want to spend your Thanksgiving away from dead carcasses, do that. It's your life and unless you are directly contributing to the death of other animals then I don't really care.
Personally, I am not doing Thanksgiving with the whole family this year because I want to celebrate in a way that is repsectful of our immediate family's lifestyle and I don't want to try and do that with a dead turkey sitting on the table. So, I won't be smelling turkey this year at all.

the smell mostly comes from all the seasoning

do whatever you want to do...may as well eat the turkey it's already cooked and all

Yes. Totally.

As a vegetarian I suggest not breathing. I've given up breathing completely so I can be the best vegetarian I can be.
Ridiculous. We do what we can.

Get some turkey, dry it out and then grind it into powder and snort it!

I hear it packs a good buzz!

Why are most vegans such nut jobs!?

ummm, its not like you can really help it without looking like a jerk. just enjoy your tofurky and ignore the turkey.

Yes. I hate to smell meat. I may skip Thanksgiving this year....

O K according to who? Who are you giving power to to decide if you are doing the right thing? Why don't you decide for yourself?
Do whatever you want.

it doesn't matter if you smell it just dont eat it. like i like the smell of the dinner that my parents make(usally not veg friendly) but i still dont eat it. its fine.

Well why don't you take a lesson from the following quote of your basic anti-social veggiehead and be "respectful". I tell you "JennaWTF'us" is an inspiration to us all.

"Personally, I am not doing Thanksgiving with the whole family this year because I want to celebrate in a way that is repsectful of our immediate family's lifestyle and I don't want to try and do that with a dead turkey sitting on the table"

Your family is more important than your purity.

This will solve your problem...watch it being cleaned out..stuffed and such then any want to smell it should be gone.

If that doesn't work..go ahead and smell it...I tell you what..you smell it enough..and you won't want it...should actually get rid of any want to smell it in the future. But be sure and smell and look at it at the same time. It just doesn't look the same as it did before you went veggie...you don't have as much to worry about as you think dear..trust me.

First of all, you would not be consuming the charred remains of a living animal.........IT'S DEAD DUMMY!!! I bet your a lot of fun at family gatherings!!! (my niece is a veg., and a blonde, however, she isn't as stupid as you)
