What percentage of people in the UK are vegetarian?!
Answers: Whenever I meet people and tell them I don't eat meat, they look at me like I'm weird! I sometimes feel like a minority of one : (
about 5 %
It varies with more females than males, more educated than not, AB vs DE social groups, more younger than old. But overall its about 5%
The number is growing by about 3% per year higher than the population.
The veggie society collates many research results, independant and otherwise, at this site:

Be careful of some of the figures as the numbers go up and down depending on the latest BSE, blue tounge, Foot and mouth, Avain flu scare. I'm not saying people should jump to vegetarianism when a cow gets foot and mouth, often there is no connection between an animal desease and human food safety. Its just that the stats show they seem to jump so if you see a blip in the figures make sure you check out why.
I know how you feel, but i think it's like 5 or 6%
Hard one to define. A lot of vegetarians are only so for a brief time, usually in their 20's, so the part of the population being polled may over or under represent the average greatly.
Based on 7 decades of knowing people, I'd say less than 1% are truely vegetarian.
I am a lot of the time because I just feel better when I don't eat meat.
