If America sank into a bitter depression, and you were in a food line...if the only choice was?!

Question: beef and barley soup, and bread...would you:

A.) Take the bread, but refuse the soup due to convictions?

B.) Eat the soup also because you are hungry?

Answers: beef and barley soup, and bread...would you:

A.) Take the bread, but refuse the soup due to convictions?

B.) Eat the soup also because you are hungry?

I would eat the soup and ask for extra beef.

I actually love bread, I think I'd be ok with it. Of course as a human being if I were actually starving, I'd eat anything, I'm sure. Luckily I've never been put in that position and hopefully I never will. :)

What an awful question.

I suppose when someone is hungry enough, they'll eat anything. (Other people, tree bark, shoes... etc.)

In general, I'd prefer to not eat meat, but if there isn't a choice, there isn't a choice.

B) eat the soup because I'm not a veg*n

My choice to not eat meat is just that, a choice. I don't have to operate based just on survival instinct. However, if that choice was removed and my survival was based on eating meat, well, I'd just have to act on my instinct, wouldn't I?

Eat everything. I am a lacto-ovo vegetarian for moral reasons, but if I was in a hard situation like that, or even being stranded somewhere for over a week then yes.

You do realize that if we did sink into another depression, meat would be for those who managed not to be affected by the economic downturn. During the Depression and World War II, meat was in quite short supply, and people ate far less than they do nowadays. I suspect meat would quickly become a luxury item.

And the reason meat would be a luxury item is that it takes 8 lbs of food to make 1 lb of meat.

And therein lies the flaw in the question. It's just theoretical....WHEN the depression happens(and if food is scarce), the animals that give the meat would have little to eat, just like us.

I'll eat off the land and grow my own food. But there wouldn't be enough for the over-population to survive years. No getting around it - there will be a huge famine.

Deju Vu; this has been asked before.

I'd like to hand the world a Prozac, and keep it company.

B. I've been a vegetarian all my life and I can't imagine eating meat, it's DEAD! Sorry, but I don't like to dead stuff, so why would I eat it? However, if I would starve otherwise I think I could eat just about anything.

ya i'd eat the bread then maybe if i am still hungry sneak into a garden or something and eat vegetables or something lol. i wouldnt eat the meat though no way no how.

Eat the soup. You can't be dead and healthy....right?

I would eat the bread. I would have to be on the verge of death to eat a dead animals flesh or support the industry that tortures sentient beings. I probably would just die.

But, fortunately, this hasn't happened yet, and all Americans are free to make the moral and healthy choice without fear of death.

both and go back for seconds if available

this is a stupid question that has been asked before.

meat would indeed very quickly become a luxury item based on the cost of producing it.

meat is expensive dude, i can get tonnes of lentils for what a steak costs......

hypothetical questions and situations do not exist. i live in the real world.

ill take option C) which is not just taking an option because thats all your offering to me... option C) undefined, other, unknown

take the bread, walk away.

Its simple.

You are really asking the same question we've heard a million times, would we eat meat on a desert island if it were the only choice. I've actually seen your exact question before, so you've either repeated it or copied it.

Extremes of a situation do not prove anything.

eg:
Woud you sleep with Hilary Clinton for $100
No, ok, how about $1M
How about $100M

At some point most people would say YES. Does this make everyone a prostitute ?

Oh, and i live in the UK and have 186+7 acres so I guess I'd be OK, as would all my veggie freinds on here, they would all be welcome.

I seriously, I mean SERIOUSLY doubt that America will go into a depression...

Even if we did, I wouldn't do either of those.

I would go to another country.
