I want to become a vegetarian/vegan I feel it's the right thing to do b/c I dislike the abuse some animals....!
Answers: have to go through. I'm scared I wouldn't like any vegan food. I can't dream of eating soy and such. Any advice?
Soy products are really, really, really not bad at all.
Don't judge before you try some Bocca or Morningstar products.
I've been a vegetarian for more than a year now, and even if I were to go back I would still prefer the Morningstar hamburger instead of the real thing.
Make sure to include a lot of alternate protein in your diet, like nuts and beans.
Really nothing else to say that hasn't already been said..
I wish you the best of luck!! :)
Don't go vegan if you can't handle soy. You're pretty much going to be starving to death otherwise. And, eating eggs and milk products does not hurt animals--the eggs are unfertilized (they're like the eggs women release during menstruation) and domesticated dairy cows lactate whether or not they have a calf--they have to be milked or they are in pain.
You can still go vegetarian. Make sure you do your research first, and go to a dietitian if you can afford it. He or she can put you on the healthiest path.
Go organic if you decide to keep eating eggs and milk products. That means the animals were raised more humanely.
So don't eat soy. You can get your protein from nuts, beans, lentils and even some vegetables. Look up vegan food combining on the internet to maximize your nutrition. And there may be some soy products that you'll find that you like. Soy ice cream is very good, as are some soy cheeses.
well I've been vegetarian for a week now. so i am not the biggest help, but.. i am no longer craving meat. i have been able to eat alot of things, i'm not starving. however i do need to watch the carbs i eat ie bread and cheese,my dad bought me boca products which are really good, and eggplant patties. do it slowly
i have noticed i have been tired now, idk i think u can take a vitamin, but do call ur dr, mine is allowing me to "try" out for a few weeks and then a check up cuz i have low blood iron levels, idk
soy milk is actually really good, i haven't eaten tofu yet but i hear it is a hate it or love it food
u won't be deprived of anything u just have to do research, oh n when u go out with friends make sure they offer stuff for vegeterians, rarely they don't
If becoming a vegan is important to you, you should. However, I know it can be really difficult to turn your diet around in a day. You need time to experiment with new recipes and foods and give yourself time to learn about vegetarian nutrition to make sure you are still eating right.
Here's what I would recommend: Ease into it. First, buy some vegan and vegetarian cook books and try some of the recipes until you found one or two you like, then keep experimenting until you have a solid stack of recipes to choose from. Also, read up on nutrition from unbiased sources, so you know how to choose a healthy and balanced diet.
Meanwhile, give up just red meat for awhile, substituting what you would have eaten with one of the new vegetarian/vegan recipes you found. After you have gotten used to cutting out red meat, cut out white meat. Then after you are used to that, cut out seafood. Next, cut out gelatin and other slaughter byproducts. Last, cut out eggs and dairy.
I followed a similar route, though only to vegetarianism. It was great because I was able to deal with the transition one baby step at a time.
Also, if you don't want to eat vegetarian meat-replacements-- don't. Health-wise it's likely better to just skip them anyway, as they tend to be processed. Just up your intake of nuts, seeds, grains, vegetables, fruit, and other natural foods instead of the meat. Still, though, don't be afraid to try new things. Soy is just a bean.
HEY NOW< give soy a break, try the extra firm silkken tofu cut up and added to stir fry,,, YUM, you will assume its chicken or cheese . very mild very nice,
umm other then that if you go VEGAN full out you best LOVE beans or you will loose hair once your protein intake falls too low, you have to get your proteins some where, oats/oatmeal has SOME , beans have LOTS, soy has a modest amount, eggs have lots, ( YEAH YEAH I KNOW) other then that aint much else
There are millions of vegetarian and vegan products that are so delicious and so much better for you then animal products.
Going veg is so commendable not only are you decreasing the torture and production of animal products but helping the environment as well. Boca products are the best ever/ The sausage is great. It's better for you and you won't get sick by eating it, because vegetarian products don't contain nasty diseases like semolina or streptococcus.
OH, sweetheart, PLEASE do not listen to "esma". She's INSANE and sadly uninformed if she thinks that the animals exploited for their eggs and milk don't live horrible, short lives and die horrific deaths. Watch a PETA video.
why would you not like vegan food? Who doesn't like pasta, pizza, and burritos?
