Obviously your parents aren’t vegetarian and simply don’t understand the necessities of a good diet for being a vegetarian. A lot of people have the misguidance that being a vegetarian means eating the same things they eat already, without the meat – a burger and fries without the burger, a pepperoni pizza without the pepperoni or spaghetti and meatballs without the meatballs.

If that’s what your parents are thinking a vegetarian diet would end up being, that’s why they would be concerned. With that type of diet, no one would be healthy.

To be a vegetarian, you would have to show your openness to new types of foods and even a willingness to learn how to make some of your own dishes. Some foods might seem foreign when you first start – Tofu for instance. Learning how to cook them and what tastes good on a plate can be a challenge… but it’s a fun one!

Stores also sell fake “meat” products like sausages, veggie burgers and chicken nuggets – usually in the frozen section. Making these as a main dish in place of what the rest of your family is eating as their meat dish could also be an option. Most only require a few minutes in the oven or the microwave – and you won’t risk any serious diseases if you accidentally undercook them.

Is both a Web site and a print magazine that has a huge number of recipes and nutritional information available. If you happen to see one for sale at a book store you might want to pick it up for both you and your parents to look through together.

One of my personal favorite sources is a show called “Good Eats” on the Food Network. Some of the episodes deal with non-meat foods and not only is it extremely entertaining but you also walk away with quite a bit of knowledge about the food and cooking.

its your life if you want to d othat then do it you don't need meat to grow just protein from vegtables and fruits and theres thousand other foods that help you grow meat is just something extra

the only thing tat can happen 2 u if u go vegetarian is getting anemic but its probably a lots less sever considering all the things u can get thru meat...like bugs and junk....ive been a vegetarian since i was about 10 or 11 and my parents didn't like it at first either but i just kept eating healthy and eating lots of beans and such to make sure that i got enuf protein.....try comprimising by saying ull take vitamins or sumthing like that or tat ull eat at least one serving of beans a day or some other food with protein in it or tat ull drink lots of milk....the only thing that meat can give u xtra is protein so...good luck

They are your parents and their rules are their rules until you are out on your own. Then you can eat whatever you want for whatever reason you want.

When you are growing, diet is nothing to fool around with. Many later life physical problems can be traced to poor foundational childhood/adolescent diets.

The issue is not that you are or are not doing something good . . .the issue is that for right now you need to listen to the parents on the diet issue.

Besides it's not worth creating a lot of trouble in the family over this issue.

this site has alot of info about how to get a healthy diet etc

Absolutely nothing will happen. I've been vegetarian my entire life and grew up healthy and happy :) Just make sure to take a vitamin everday and there should be no major problems.
In actuality, vegetarians tend to live longer, have less health problems, and have less weight issues to deal with. Go veggie!!!

let me see... You are 13 years old, probably live in the house youre parents worked hard for so they can provide you proper shelter, they buy you clothes or give you money to buy clothes, they take you to the doc when yo are sick, they provide you with nutrition, and they py for the rst of of your expenses. Then you come up with this idea and you'd rather listen to strangers on the internet than to the two pepole who have provided you with everything you have at this point..and you are pissed at them for showing some concern.. what a wonderful daughter you are.. and am sure the vegeheads in this forum would be so proud of you...they'll be giving you advice on how good it is to be vegetarian..never mind that they are encouraging an underage child to defy her parents...afterall, being a vegehead is the most important thing, so who cares if they can potentially destroy a family? It's not theirs to begin with so what do they care?

Not a good idea dear for a number of reasons: (1) They are your parents and have your best interests at heart. (2) You are growing and need a good foundational diet to avoid problems later on. (3) As mentioned it's not worth to be arguing with your parents. Stress is worse than a bad diet for your health and emotional well-being. (4) You have your whole life to eat what you want after you leave home. (5) Your brain will wind up like "Apoo" and you will write and spell like her if you go veggie at a young age..

I've been vegan since conepetion, as have my two children, adn we've never been sick.

it's so ironic to see Americans eating at McDonald's and dealing with the health complications of being morbidly obese and then they worry about the health of VEGETARIANS. Not saying your family is like that, but it just bothers me.
