Some quesions about pomegranates?!
1. How do you choose a pomegranate? Does softer mean sweeter, harder more tart? What would one look like if it was fresh vs. spoiled?
2. Are you intended to eat the seeds inside the arils? Perhaps the ripeness of the fruit makes the seeds softer and more edible? I love the juicy outer flesh of the aril, but have to spit out the tiny hard seeds. Do they make seedless pomegranates? Any way around them?
Thanks in advance for your help
Answers: I actually tried my first fresh pomegranate today, it was delicious! I do have a few questions.

You want to find a pomegranate that's heavy for its size; they're juicier. You want somewhat firm, but not hard. Yes, you are intended to eat the seeds inside the arils. They're tiny and will do you no harm. It is already a lot of work to gently get all the seeds out of the pomegranate, why make more work and mess while eating them. My family sprinkles them on salads, as well as serving with ice cream, fruit platters, etc.
No, they don't make seedless pomegranates. In essence, the seed is the fruit.
in response to your second question, you can eat the seeds but i personally don't like them and spit them out myself. answer to this? i got a juicer! it's a lot faster, i just cut open the pomegranate, throw all the arils in, and viola! delicious juice! i sometimes mix it with orange juice and it's to die for.
plus, fresh squeezed juice is uber good for you and way yummier than store bought juice with all it's added sugars and preservatives.
I just drink the juice - I bash the pomegranate all over - it is a very therapeutic thing to do - like popping bubble wrap, then pierce the skin and suck the juice out - lovely! Lots of seeds and mess left over, though.
The heavier the fruit, the juicier.
I never eat the seeds.
