I want to be vegan. But how do I know if a food has an animal product in it? It is so confusing!?!

Question: Some things have animal products in them that you wouldnt even think of! Like McDonalds french fries! So how can I know something doesnt?
And I want to do this for health reasons!
And it will help me lose weight.
I get sick to my stomach when I look at meat now.
I read the book "Skinny *****". Awesome book! It tells about losing weight. And it told of some of the nasty things that go on in those slaughter places and now I just get sick when I look at meat.

consider going to a health food store
&ask questions

If it has the certified organic label it's fine.
Try shopping at organic stores, but they usually only have these in larger cities.
Don't eat anything with geletin; this included jello, gummy candies, marshmellows, etc.
Always read the ingredient labels on your food. No butter, milk, eggs, meat fat etc.
Peta2.com has a list of vegan foods that are great for you: http://peta2.org/STUFF/s-recipe.asp

Hope this helps.

Do some research on hidden animal ingredients in food, and pretty much assume that nothing is vegan until you're sure that it is. If you're ever in question you can research it online because chances are someone has had the same concern as you, and you can pretty much find anything by googling it. You can also call manufacturers and customer service at your favorite fast food chains, etc.

Most products list if they include dairy.Read labels and when you go out,be wary of soups which are usually chicken or beef broth based. And if you are skeptical of something, you can always go with a salad. Google search animal ingredients in vegetarian food and a lot will come up.

You read ingredient labels and you ask questions. If you're going to take the "Skinny B***h" advice to heart, you really don't have to worry about McDonald's french fries anyway, but there are websites that will tell you which ingredients at which restaurants are vegan and which aren't.

You read the ingredients. And all restuarants I've ever been to, other than small local ones, have a website where you can check for ingredients.

BTW, veganism is a lifestyle, not just what you eat. Vegans don’t wear leather, fur, or wool, buy products from companies that conduct non-required animal toxicity tests:

Or frequent zoos, rodeos, circuses, or other places where animals are held in captivity or forced to perform.

I think you mean you want to eat a vegan DIET, but you'd still just be vegetarian.

Love SB, awesome book.
