I want to become a vegetarian...?!
Also, my family eats alot of meat, which makes it even harder. Plus my dad got angry when i mentioned it. :/
But, anyway, i'm a really picky eatter. And most of what i eat is stuff w/ cheese/ eggs/ meat.. so what are good, easy vegetarian meals? & Is stuff like the "silk" soymilk.. taste the same as regualr milk??
help??? .. is appreciated.
I know this'll be hard, but i think it's worth it. Suggestions would be great. [[:
Answers: i've read... "Vegetarians have been reported to have lower body mass indices than nonvegetarians" and my body mass is already only 3%, which is low, which i can't really afford to get any lower.

i have met some delightfully plump vegans and vegetarians in my day, so no worries mate, you will still be eating plenty well (for example, oreos are vegan...yummy).
sorry your dad is not very understanding. the truth is, the u.s. population is only about 3% vegetarian, so you are in for a world of people not being very receptive to your diet. however, whenever it does happen that someone wants to question my decision to not eat meat, i take it as a wonderful opportunity to educate them about the reality of factory farms. there is a wonderful website called mercyforanimals.org that will really help you out with dieting tips, information about factory farms, and will really help concrete the decision you have made in becoming vegetarian.
as for your diet preferences. silk soymilk, particularly the vanilla flavor- is delicious. i love vanilla soymilk by itself and it tastes even better than regular milk in your cereal and oatmeal. give it a go. rice dream, and almond milk are good alternatives also.
if you eat a lot of cheese and eggs, this may be hard to give up at first. i suggest you gradually ween yourself off of these items, just try to cut out the amount of cheese and eggs you eat. admittedly, it took me two years to transition from vegetarian to vegan, so don't beat yourself up if you can't withstand from eggs and cheese right away- just know that no matter what by not eating meat you will make a difference in the lives of animals (in fact, by not eating meat you save 95 animals each year alone), and cutting out even just a little cheese and egg can still make a big difference.
i would recommend to you that you subscribe to "vegetarian times" magazine. it has really great and easy recipes and comes once a month. mercyforanimals.org has some wonderful and easy vegan recipes as well. just get out there online- search for easy vegetarian recipes and tons of stuff will come up. i am confident that with a little effort (it's really not that hard) you will start to figure out how easy and rewarding a vegetarian lifestyle can be.
good luck!
Are you attempting to become a vegetarian or a vegan. Vegetarians may still eat cheese, eggs, etc. Vegans may not eat ANYTHING that comes from a living thing (that includes honey) and may not wear anything that comes from animals (so no leather)..
You could just cut meat intake, stop eating junk food, and diet better. A veg diet won't promise better health. It's all about how you manage it.
What do you mean by 3%? The BMI scale typically runs from 15 to 30. Are you referring to body fat % instead?
i want to be vegetarian too!!! i hav the same issues as u do! cuz my family <3 to eat alot of meat especially chicken.
well u could eat bread n cornflakes// fruits// yogurt//
if you really want to be a vegetarian be a vegetarian! but we humans are omnivores. our bodies need some nutrients in meats. you can just stop eating read meats and continue to eat fish and poultry. consult a dietitian.
Good for you! It's hard to do something that may be going against your family's actions, but going vegetarian/vegan can be a wonderful decision if you're doing it for the right reasons and you educate yourself in order to do it healthfully. It sounds like you need to learn more about vegetarianism and perhaps start experimenting with some new foods. If you go to Peta's website, you can request a free Vegetarian Starter Kit, which will give you all kinds of information, recipes, and encouragement. The more you understand about the reasons for becoming vegetarian and the nutrients you need to be healthy, the more easily you will be able to justify your feelings and decision to your family. You will never be able to get everyone to understand, but as long as you are committed to what you believe in, the decision should feel right. I wish you lots of luck!
If you want to become vegetarian go for it, be strong and don't let other people get to you. Many people say to me well what do you eat then if you don't eat meat or fish, its crazy the list is endless, and for people who say you need to eat meat to be healthy is ridiculous, I have been a veggie for 14 years now and I am a hell of a lot healthier than a lot of meat eaters.
i veggie and my BMI isnt low. not thats a good thing but anyways my hole family eat a lot of meat and my parents ALWAYS take the piss out of me for not eating meat, dairy etc. but its something i believe in and want, so if u want it enough u can do it
I had exactly the same problem with my family. But as time passed, they saw i wouldn't eat meat for no reason,so they finally accepted it.And i'm no stick,i'm 100 kilos just by eating rice and cheese!;-)
