Sodium - are we getting enough?!
Today so far to eat I've had a salad roll with oil and vinegar dressing and an instant noodle (this has a whack of sodium at 710mg).
Answers: When your diet lacks processed foods and you use sea salt when cooking and dont salt food at the table will you get enough sodium in your diet?

500mg sodium is all your body needs every day. I think the average american gets about 2000. It doens't take much salt to get that minimal amount.
It's pretty rare to have a deficiency, unless you're taking a sodium-depleting medicine or something, but then your dr would advice you to make up for it.
common salt that is the table salt and the other food sources are there to provide you enough sodium so don't worry kid.
You're getting plenty of sodium, don't worry. It's kind of hard to not get enough sodium.
That's an interesting question. We are so well informed that sodium is 'bad' for us that we kind of avoid it, which is probably good for most people, but not all. For years I didn't salt my food, thinking I was being healthy, then I had some bloodwork done and my sodium level was actually below the normal range. Now I don't feel guilty when I dunk my sushi in a pool of soy sauce!
our body doesnt 'lack' processed food, when we arent supposed to eat it at all.
a lot of food we eat is packed with sodium, if you eat a normal or even healthy american diet, you are probably getting more sodium then you need.
Body physiology is a lot more complicated than that. There is sodium in pretty much everything (spinach has a naturally high amount) and the body can absorb sodium if it needs it. It's diuretics and excessive sweating that can mess up the electrolyte balance.
It's unlikely you're not getting enough sodium. It's the IODINE you need to watch for. I highly suggest EVERY person take a kelp pill if you're not eating a lot of sea vegetables.
We don't get as much iodized salt as we probably should and the number of people in the modern world with thyroid problems indicates we're NOT getting enough iodine. Kelp supplement! Trust me.
Sea salt is STILL sodium. Maybe you're thinking of IODINE, from iodized table salt.
The problem is we get tooooooooooooo much sodium whether we like it or not.
