A good soy cheese that melts well?!
I live in Canada so if anyone could suggest something available here, that would help. :)
Answers: Can anyone recommend a good brand of soy cheese that tastes good and actually melts? I tried a soy cheese a few years ago and it was the NASTIEST stuff ever, and didn't even melt.

the follow your heart vegan gourmet cheese has a canadian counter-part called earth island vegan gourmet. its damn good, melts and i know what u mean about the other "cheese" its sooo gross. but this ones good. i live in BC by the way but im sure u can get it all over, they sell it at "choices" so if u have that chain in ur town they probably will. also check health food stores
I've heard Follow Your Heart Vegan Gourmet melts wonderfully & tastes great.
I've never had it. I'm over the need for cheese replacements.
I don't know what is available in Canada, but Vegan Gourmet is an excellent vegan soy cheese. Try the mozzarella flavor--I've had the monteray jack and it's okay but not as good as the mozzarella. And I've heard that the cheddar flavor is not as good either. You can definitely get Vegan Gourmet to melt...the trick is that you need to heat it to a very high temperature and wait a while. For example, when I make pizza bagels in the toaster oven, I usually heat it to 450 degrees and it probably takes about 20 minutes for it to melt. I've also had a lot of luck using Vegan Gourmet to make macaroni and cheese. There's a great recipe in the cookbook "La Dolce Vegan" by Sarah Kramer. This brand soy cheese melts very well for that recipe. Another brand I've used is VeganRella, which worked well for the mac and cheese, but not as much for the pizza bagels. If you're able to get Vegan Gourmet, I would go with that one first. Hope this helps!
while not a soy cheese Cheezly made by Redwood tastes prity good and there Supermelting variates are excellent at melting. dont know if they are avalible in canada but they are produced in the UK and they are imported to countrys with a fraction of canadas population.
i believe some of Tofutti soy cheese slices task ok and do melt to an extent, they are made by an USA company again i would guess they would be imported into Canada if they are to much smaller countrys
If you don't have your heart set on soy, I'd recommend almond cheese. It's fantastic. Go with the mozzarella.
I hate all kinds of cheese!
Their is no such thing as soy cheese that melts. After a nuclear Holocaust, the soy cheese will remain in the same disgusting form.
