Why did I get a hangover when I wasn't even drunk?!

Question:

Why did I get a hangover when I wasn't even drunk?

I only had 2 drinks.. I wasn't drunk at all - yet today I woke up with my head thumping and feeling sick! How come?

Answers:
You don't have to be drunk to get a hangover. You get hangover because your body gets dehydrated from the alcohol. Alcohol, takes every bit of water from your body. That is why it is important to get a lot of water to drink after drinking alcocol and you will find yourself not waking up with the hangover.

If you mixed wine and beer - it's almost guaranteed.

did you have an empty stomach , maybe you had n't eaten enough xx

Wine do'es that to me.

Do you take any medications or eat something with MSG or aspartame?

the chemicals that give you a hangover are bas*****! They don't always give you the pleasure of being pi**ed before giving you a stonker!

Sometimes that happens to me. I think it's because I was in a smoky bar or because I hadn't drank enough water that day. If you don't have enough fluids in you (non alcoholic) and then you have a few drinks your even more dehydrated than usual.

The main cause of hangovers De-hydration.

you are still a rookie. practice makes perfect.lol

Maybe you have a virus, e.g. a cold on its way, mistaken for a hangover, or you had your drink spiked!

all of the dehydration answers are right on. Try drinking water before you drink and for sure when you get home at the end of the night. It you are drinking a lot, mix water in between each drink or at least between every couple. It won't stop you from getting drunk. It won't even stop the hang over for sure but at least limit it.

Mixing grain and fruit. Bad mistake.

Hangovers usually happen because you are dehydrated. So you probably were dehydrated before you started drinking, so the boose made it worse. Or you could have had an empty stomach.

Most likely dehydration. Add that to lack of sleep and you've hit the jackpot so to speak LOL

You either had two very strong drinks or you mixed them. Shouldn't mix your drinks. I know from experience. Otherwise you ate nothing before you drank and your body was just running off those two glasses of alcoholic beverage!

If you were in a smoky club / pub, it could be that all that smoke has messed up your sinuses, and that what you really have is a sinus headache.... happens to me a lot, looking forward to the total smoking ban!

If you were drinking coloured alcohol like red wine then the colourants and additives in that can add to a hangover. Alcohol dehydrates the body and makes you lose good fluids in your body which gives you a sore head and can make you dizzy, if you drink plenty of water before going to bed then that should help the hangover.
