What liquid measurement is used in the USA?!

Question: I am in the UK. I have a recipe which I got on-line from an American user that includes "one fifth" of 80 proof vodka. What does this mean in English measurements - i.e. litres or pints? I need to convert it to an English measure.

one fifth = 750 ml, or 3/4 of a litre.

one fifth refers to one fifth of a gallon. that would be just under a liter, which is one fourth of a gallon. hope this helps

In UK you would use a tot. This is about 1 fluid ox or 28mls.

The old "fifth" was a fifth of a US gallon, which is 128/5 oz. Our gallons are smaller than yours.
